Abstract:
An electrodeless lamp which operates with a high efficiency and with a lower cooling requirement. The bulb is rotated at a high speed which results in a substantial increase in efficiency. Because more of the input energy is converted to light, and less to heat, the pressure of the cooling fluid source may be reduced, resulting in a less noisy system.
Abstract:
An improved means for triggering high voltage spark gap devices for current injection and pulse power applications which utilizes the high voltage source itself to trigger the discharge. A switch initially directs current flow from the high voltage source through a trigger resistor which creates sufficient potential difference between a primary electrode and the trigger electrode to fire the spark gap. A second blocking resistor inhibits current flow through the trigger electrode and directs the discharge through the load. The trigger circuit has very little influence on the discharge waveform due to the very high impedance of the resistor string.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device for generating plasma (ionizing gas) by a propagating surface wave. The device comprises a wave launching structure mounted on a plasma vessel and connected to an impedance matching network. The latter comprises a coupler and a tuner which is either formed by a section of a transmission line or is of the lumped circuitry type. The launching structure may either generate an azimuthally symmetric or a non symmetric propagating wave. This invention also relates to a method and a device for shaping plasma which comprises a plasma vessel receiving a surface wave generator and having a serviceable portion of a size and/or shape substantially different from the shape and/or size of the portion of the plasma vessel receiving the wave generator.
Abstract:
A spectral source comprises a lamp containing an anode and a cathode in an inert gas. The cathode has a hollow portion therein, and a opening at its side wall. The anode is positioned to face the opening of the cathode. The anode and cathode are different in shape and connected to a high-frequency discharge power source. A magnetic field is arranged in perpendicular to the direction of the axial center of the opening.
Abstract:
A circuit for driving one electrode group of a gas discharge display panel includes a plurality of PNP transistors and NPN transistors. The emitter electrodes of the PNP transistors are connected to a positive voltage source and the emitter electrodes of the NPN transistors are connected to ground. Diode means are connected between the collector electrodes of the PNP transistors and those of the NPN transistors across matrix points formed at the intersections of a first plurality of conductors connected respectively to the collector electrodes of the PNP transistors and a second plurality of conductors connected respectively to the collector electrodes of the NPN transistors. The individual electrodes of the one electrode group of the gas discharge tube are connected to the diode means and grounded through capacitors, which may be included in the gas discharge display panel.
Abstract:
A NONUNIFORM CROSSED FIELD ELECTRON GUN HAS A LONG THIN ANODE PARALLEL TO THE AXIS OF THE TUBE AND A CATHODE SPACED FROM THE ANODE BY A CONSTANT INTERVAL AND OPPOSITE THE ANODE. AN ELECTRODE OF DIHEDRAL CONFIGURATION HAS A VERTEX WITH AN ELONGATED APERTURE FORMED THEREIN IN THE CENTER AREA OF THE VERTEX. THE CATHODE IS POSITIONED IN THE APERTURE AND THE ELECTRODE OPENS TOWARD THE ANODE. AN ELECTRIC FIELD E(Y) IS PRODUCED IN THE AREA BETWEEN THE ANODE AND THE ELECTRODE TO PROVIDE MOVEMENT OF ELECTRONS IN AXIAL DIRECTION OF THE TUBE. A MAGNETIC FIELD B(Y) IS PRODUCED WHICH HAS A STRENGTH WHICH VARIES AS A FUNCTION OF THE DISTANCE Y FROM THE CATHODE TO THE ANODE IN A DIRECTION TRANSVERSE TO THAT OF THE ELECTRIC
FIELD AND THE AXIS OF THE TUBE. WHEN THE ELECTRIC FIELD AND THE MAGNETIC FIELD ARE IN A POSITION Y=L,
WHEREIN L IS THE POSITION OF THE STABLE ORBIT OF ELECTRONS BETWEEN THE CATHODE AND ANODE, D IS THE CHARGE OF ELECTRONS, M IS THE MASS OF ELECTRONS AND P IS A CONSTANT.
