The composition can be topically applied to the human skin and can include one or more whitening agents in combination with mercaptodextran to achieve enhanced whitening effect. The method includes incorporating mercaptodextran with known whitening agents and applying to the skin in an amount and for a period of time sufficient to visibly whiten the skin.

    摘要： The present invention relates to compositions suitable for providing protection against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation. The compositions provide excellent efficiency, broad spectrum UV efficacy, and photostability. Methods of use for these compositions are also disclosed. The present compositions comprise: a) an effective amount of a UVA-absorbing dibenzoylmethane sunscreen active;b) an and effective amount of a naphthalene derivative having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is in the 1 or 2 position and is independently selected from the group consisting of CHO, COOH, COR' wherein R' is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 straight or branched alkyl or an aryl, and wherein said naphthalene derivative has a triplet energy state of from about 56 kcal/mol to about 59.5 kcal/mol; andc) a suitable carrier.

    摘要： A protective cosmetic particulate gel delivery system for a topically applied active agent employs an agar gel and a restraining polymer to retain the actve agent in the gel. The particles have an average particle diameter of at least 0.05 mm while the restraining polymer has a molecular weight of at least 50,000 daltons and has retention groups to bind the active agent. The restraining polymers can be selected from the group consisting of polyquaternium 24, laurdimonium hydroxyethylcellulose, cocodimonium hydroxyethylcellulose, steardimonium hydroxyethylcellulose, quaternary ammonium substituted water-soluble polysaccharides, alleyl quaternary celluloses and polypeptides having or provided with retention groups to retain the active agent. The gel particles of the invention are manually crushable on the skin to increase the surface area of the gel particle material and expose the restraining polymer to the skin or other body surface for release of the active agent. The delivery system can be incorporated in multiphase cosmetic formulations such as gels, creams and lotions.
