This invention relates to an optoelectronic cable assembly which utilizes standard connector elements as part of the termination assemblies. Mounted in each termination assembly are a plurality of termination elements each of which is adapted to have a fiber optic light conducting cable secured therein. An active optoelectronic device is mounted in a suitable mounting means in each of the termination elements and contact means are attached at one end through the mounting means to make electrical contact with the active device. The contacts project at the other end for connection to external elements. The mounting means is supported by a suitable means in the bore of the element body. A lens or other suitable device is mounted in front of the device for transmitting light between the device and the cable. The assembly design, particularly that for the termination assembly containing a light emitting device, is specially designed for dissipating heat from the device.

The repeating chain of pulses of a GeMSAEC analytical photometer is referenced to a constant amplitude water blank pulse that is sampled with each revolution of the rotor. A feedback circuit samples the amplitude of the water blank cuvet signal by means of a fast-acting solid state switch. It assures that the water blank signal amplitude remains constant by controlling the photomultiplier tube high voltage supply following comparison of the water blank transmission signal with a very well regulated reference voltage. Thus, in the event of photomultiplier gain change or power supply drift during operation, automatic restoration of the photometer data transmission signals to their correct values will occur.

An analytical photometer-fluorometer is provided for simultaneously determining solute concentration in a multiplicity of discrete samples. A multiplicity of sample analysis chambers or cuvettes are arranged in a circular array within a centrifuge rotor to provide a rotary cuvette system. Each cuvette is provided with a shallow portion (0.1 - 0.2 cm depth) having a transparent window on one side only for making fluorometric measurements and a portion having greater depth ( about 1 cm) and transparent windows on both sides for making photometric measurements. A photometer light source and a photodetector are disposed on opposite sides of the centrifuge rotor to make photometric measurements of the cuvette contents. A fluorescence excitation light source is disposed on the same side of the rotor as the photodetector and oriented to direct a light beam at an angle into the shallow portion of each cuvette.

An analytical photometer is provided for simultaneously determining the presence of a common substance in a multiplicity of discrete samples. A multiplicity of sample chambers with axially aligned transparent windows are arranged within a centrifuge rotor to provide a rotary cuvette system. Solution handling systems comprising sets of interconnected, solutionaccepting chambers are disposed generally in radial alignment with the sample chambers forming the cuvette system. The solution-accepting chambers of the solution handling systems are shaped and sized to retain liquid when the rotor is at rest, and to release the liquid to the cuvettes when the rotor is spinning. A single light source and a photodetecting unit are aligned with the windows to determine chemical species concentrations by light absorbancy in the samples contained in the cuvettes. Means for receiving the output from the photodetecting unit are provided for individually indicating the phototransmittance of the samples within each cuvette.
