Abstract:
A data processing apparatus uses numeric processing. A corrective mechanism enables a method for performing accurate integer divisions to be derived from an approximate division method which does not, of itself, always produce an accurate result but for which the range of errors is known. By applying the corrective mechanism to a suitable approximate division method, a numeric processing mechanism performs the integer division operation efficiently. An approximate division method that uses rapid operations for fast integer division, and thus has a small possible range of errors, is used to enable the correction method to be completed rapidly.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel class of azadecalin compounds and methods of using the compounds as glucocorticoid receptor modulators.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions for inducing immune suppression are disclosed. The methods involve administering an effective amount of a CD200 protein or a nucleic acid encoding a CD200 protein. The methods are useful in preventing graft rejection, fetal loss, autoimmune disease, and allergies. Methods and compositions for preventing immune suppression are also disclosed. The methods involve administering an effective amount of an agent that inhibits CD200. Such methods are useful in treating cancer.
Abstract:
Compounds, compositions and methods that are useful in the treatment of inflammatory, immunoregulatory, metabolic and cell proliferative conditions or diseases are provided herein. In particular, the invention provides compounds which modulate the expression and/or function of proteins involved in inflammation, metabolism and cell proliferation. The subject compounds contain fused carbocyclic or heterocyclic rings.
Abstract:
Compounds of formula (I): wherein: R2 is H or an optionally substituted C1-4 alkyl group; Y is either —(CH2)n—X—, where n is 1 or 2 and X is O, S, S(═O), S(═O)2, or NRN1, where RN1 is selected from H or optionally substituted C1-4 alkyl, or Y is —C(═O)NRN2—, where RN2 is selected from H, and optionally substituted C1-7 alkyl or C5-20 aryl; R3 is an optionally substituted C6 aryl group linked to a further optionally substituted C6 aryl group, wherein if both C6 aryl groups are benzene rings, there may be an oxygen bridge between the two rings, bound adjacent the link on both rings; A is a single bond or a C1-3 alkylene group; and R5 is either: (i) carboxy; (ii) a group of formula (II): ; or (iii) a group of formula (III): wherein R is optionally substituted C1-7 alkyl, C5-20 aryl or NRN3RN4, where RN3 and RN4 are independently selected from optionally substituted C1-4 alkyl; (iv) tetrazol-5-yl.
Abstract:
This invention relates to domestic heat and power systems that allow efficient methods of operating a domestic combined heat and power (dchp) unit and to energy-efficient methods of scheduling domestic appliance operation within a household having a dchp unit. Dchp units provide heating and hot water for the home and also generate electricity for use in the home. A domestic heat and power system is provided that comprises a dchp unit, a dchp unit controller, a programmer module and an energy scheduler linked to allow communication therebetween, wherein the programmer module receives data input and generates a heating and/or hot water schedule therefrom, the dchp unit controller determines operating times of the dchp unit in accordance with the schedule and provides the operating times to the energy scheduler that then operates the domestic appliance during operating times.
Abstract:
Methods and systems to enable touch-free call origination using a communication device equipped with a microphone. The method comprises processing a first microphone signal at the device in an attempt to detect a spoken activation command potentially contained therein. Responsive to detection of a spoken activation command in the first microphone signal, the method continues by establishing a communication path between the device and a network entity to convey to the network entity a second microphone signal. Finally, the method comprises processing the second microphone signal at the network entity in an attempt to detect a call origination command potentially contained therein; and, responsive to detection of a call origination command in the second microphone signal, attempting establishment of a call in accordance with the detected call origination command. Thus, a call can be established without tactile interaction with the device and, moreover, with minimal computational load on the device.
Abstract:
Single phase microemulsions improve the removal of filter cakes formed during drilling with invert emulsions. The single phase microemulsion removes oil and solids from the deposited filter cake. Optionally, an acid capable of solubilizing the filter cake bridging particles may also be used with the microemulsion. In one non-limiting embodiment the acid may be a polyamino carboxylic acid. Skin damage removal from internal and external filter cake deposition can be reduced.
Abstract:
A method suitable for execution by a voice mail system for handling a call placed by a caller. The method comprises providing the caller with an opportunity to submit a voice segment and providing the caller with an opportunity to submit an auxiliary electronic message, such as text or files. A composite message comprising the voice segment and the auxiliary electronic message is stored in a database. The auxiliary electronic message is released to its intended recipient upon subsequent interaction between the intended recipient and the voice mail system. The ability of the caller to submit text or files increases the accuracy and flexibility with which certain types of information can be conveyed to the intended recipient. At the same time, the ability of the intended recipient to access text or files associated with individual messages allows the intended recipient to better manage missed calls when eventually accessing his or her mailbox.
Abstract:
Provided are methods and systems that facilitate automated networked distribution of information. In particular, a plurality of information worms are evaluated, one or more of the information worms are selected based on the evaluation, and the selected information worms are incorporated into one or more information channels suitable for automated distribution across a network.
