摘要: A telecommunication system provides voice and data communications over a conventional telephone line that can be dynamically switched from voice mode to any of a plurality of data modes (e.g., fax, modem, or VoiceView protocols) during a single conversation. Each station includes a telephone for voice communications and switching means for selectively connecting the telephone to the telephone line in voice mode and disconnecting the telephone while operating in one of the data modes. A modem provides data communications over the telephone line in any of a plurality of data modes. Voice is the default mode of operation. Prior to switching into a data mode, the originating station first transmits a start signal over the telephone line that includes a mode signal indicating one of the data modes. If a station detects a start signal transmitted by a remote station, a controller directs the switching means and modem to automatically switch from voice mode to the selected data mode in preparation for receiving data from the originating station. The stations also can also query one another to exchange information on their respective capabilities.

摘要: Tubular packages of glass fibers having a generally cylindrical shape are provided that have a reduced tendency to slump or to collapse as the glass fibers are removed from the package. The tubular package has glass fibers wound in superimposed annular layers to form a tubular package of continuous glass fibers having a generally cylindrical shape. The tubular, generally cylindrical shaped package of glass fibers has a fibrous net on the external surface of the package of glass fibers, wherein the net is sufficient to provide support to at least the external peripheral surface of the package of glass fibers. This support can be provided by having the net composed of stiff fibrous material that is used in conjunction with strips of adhesive on the external surface of the net, or heat shrinkable fibrous material, or fibrous material with a tacky surface, or a mixture thereof. The net may cover the package of glass fibers from almost one end of the peripheral surface to almost the other end of the peripheral surface; or the entire peripheral surface; or the peripheral surface and one end of the package; or the peripheral surface and both ends of the package except where one end has an opening sufficient to allow the glass fibers to be unwound from the package. The net may be in the form of a sheet, sleeve or bag or bag with only an opening sufficient to allow the glass fibers to be removed from the package.

摘要: Various embodiments of reduced-size vehicles such as all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility vehicles (UVs) are disclosed herein. In at least some embodiments, the vehicles include frames that are wider near the front and rear sections of the vehicles than within the mid-sections of the vehicles. This, in combination with the use of shock-absorbers that are substantially vertically oriented, allows for the opening-up of large interior cavities within the front and rear sections of the vehicles within which can be positioned large front and rear internal compartments that can provide storage/carrying capacity as well as added buoyancy for the vehicle, among other things. Also, in at least some embodiments, the vehicles can include special cooling and/or exhaust systems having components that are positioned substantially within the mid-sections of the vehicles, thus further increasing the amounts of space available for the cavities/compartments within the front and rear sections of the vehicles.

摘要: A potassium hydroxide (KOH) etch process can produce deep high aspect ratio trenches in (110) oriented silicon substrates. The trenches, however, are perpendicular to the (111) direction of the silicon substrate's crystal lattice. The trenches are used to produce thermally isolating areas and through the wafer electrical connections. These structures can be produced in a cost effective manner because of the nearly ideal capabilities of the KOH etch process when it is applied to appropriate materials at appropriate orientations.
