摘要: A recording medium cartridge includes a memory circuit for storing information concerning signals recorded on the recording medium within the cartridge. The information is stored in the memory circuit in the form of a hierarchic data structure which includes a plurality of data packets having a predetermined form and length. Each data packet includes a code indicative of a level in the data structure to which the data packet belongs. At least some of the data packets include data indicative of starting and ending positions on the recording medium of recorded signals which the data packet represents. The hierarchic (or “tree”) data structure facilitates rapid retrieval and reproduction of the signals recorded on the recording medium, particularly when the recording medium is a magnetic tape. The tree structure also facilitates storage of information in connection with recording of additional signals on the recording medium.

摘要: A method and system for selecting and controlling target devices on a digital home network, in particular a network compliant with IEEE 1394. Various aspects of the process for connecting target devices are moved from the controller to the target devices. An input-select button is used to select a device (a source device) to provide an input signal to another device (a sink device) on the home network. An output-select button is used to specify which output plug is to be used by the source device.

摘要: Data to be transmitted via a serial bus in conformity with the IEEE 1394 protocol are ciphered by a ciphering/deciphering circuit, and headers are attached thereto by a header sync detecting/generating circuit. And after further attachment of CRC code by a CRC detector/generator, the data are packetized into isochronous packets of an isochronous mode by a transmission/reception switching circuit, whereby transmission of the data can be performed with enhanced security. Out of cipher keys employed, a session key invariable in each session of the data is transmitted in each packet of an asynchronous mode, and a time variable updated in each session is transmitted in each packet of an isochronous mode. And the ciphered data obtained by depacketizing the packets of the isochronous mode are deciphered, so that the data transmitted with security can be deciphered exactly, and thus illegal use of the data can be prevented with certainty.

摘要: The CGMS unacceptable recorder accepts transmission frames only when the copyright protection information in a transmission header transmitted to the IEEE1394 serial bus indicates copy free. The CGMS acceptable recorder accepts transmission frames when the copyright protection information in the transmission header indicates copy free. When the copyright protection information in the transmission header indicates compliance with the copyright information contained in the content of the transmission frame, the copyright information in the content is fetched based on the signal format type information of the transmission header. A copy management information changeable apparatus such as a computer cannot accept data other than copy free signals from the digital interface.

摘要: A bus management node 11 has a register for channels in use REG1 and a bus capacity register REG2. Before starting the synchronous communication, each node 12 transmits a read-out command to the register for channels in use REG1 in order to read out their contents for ascertaining the number of the un-used channel and the residual capacity. If there is any un-used channel and any residual bus capacity, the node 12 transmits write commands to these registers REG1 and REG2 so that the number of the channel to be in use and the capacity of the bus to be in use will be stored in the register for channels in use REG1 and the bus capacity register REG2. This enables bus management to be achieved easily in a system performing synchronous communication between plural nodes connected to the bus.

摘要: A method and system for providing a user interface for a networked target device using panel subunit descriptor information maintained by the target device. The present invention utilizes a panel subunit to allow any compliant device (e.g., a target device) to describe the appearance of its physical (and logical) controls and displays to another device (e.g., an intelligent controller) and allows the controller to trigger actions on the target as if a user had physically manipulated the controls on the target device directly. The panel subunit uses objects defined with several standard types of controls and displays (e.g., push buttons, sliders, dials, LCD screens, etc.) that are commonly found on consumer electronic devices. The control types have well defined behaviors (e.g., buttons are pushed, dials are moved, values are input, etc.). In addition, the panel subunit defines a set of commands which are to be applied to any of these controls when selected by the user. The commands are defined to be sufficiently generic so that they apply to most types of controls. The panel subunit also defines generic user interaction commands (or user events) which can be applied to the controls (e.g., press, press and hold, release, input value, etc.) by a user. The purpose of these user events is to encapsulate the typical user manipulated action for the controls and to let the target device decide the manner in which to interpret the user actions on its own. A status descriptor keeps the intelligent controller informed of the status of the target device being manipulated.

摘要: A recording and reproducing apparatus according to the invention has: at least a pair of rotary heads having different azimuth angles; a run controller for controlling the run of the magnetic tape; and a recording timing controller for controlling so that the recording by the rotary heads is performed at the first period when digital data having a first data rate is inputted, wherein the digital data is recorded on the magnetic tape at a recording timing. The recording and reproducing apparatus also has a memory for storing the digital data which is supplied from the outside, a reader for reading the digital data stored in the memory, and a signal processor for executing a predetermined process to the digital data read from the memory. When digital data having a second data rate which is different from the first data rate is inputted, the recording timing controller and the reader execute respective processes at an operating speed based on the ratio of those rates and the run controller controls the speed of the magnetic tape based on the data rate ratio.
