    摘要: According to an embodiment, a magnetic head for perpendicular recording, includes a slider including a facing surface opposed to a recording medium, and a head portion on the slider and configured to perform information processing for the recording medium. The head portion includes a main pole configured to apply a perpendicular recording magnetic field to the recording medium, a recording coil configured to excite the main pole, a write shield pole opposing the main pole across a write gap, side shields arranged individually on opposite sides of the main pole in a track width direction and magnetically isolated from the main pole, and low-flux-density layers formed of a material having a saturation magnetic flux density lower than that of the main pole, located between the main pole and the side shields, and configured to regulate magnetic fluxes flowing from the main pole to the side shields.

    摘要: Provided is a thermal-assisted-magnetic-recording head capable of directing, to a magnetic recording medium, light in which the spot size is reduced to submicron order with high total optical propagation efficiency. A light coupling unit that guides light emitted from the light source into a magnetic head and a high-refractive-index core that couples with the light guided by the light coupling unit to lead the light to an air bearing surface are arranged in the magnetic head. The light coupling unit includes a plurality of thin-film-like cores that are separated from each other by a clad material. An upper part of the high-refractive-index core is placed between two thin-film-like cores.

The mounting substrate is provided with a waveguide having a core and a pair of fitting recesses.     摘要: In an optical attenuator, there are a first optical waveguide 3A connected to an input optical waveguide 1, a second optical waveguide 3B connected to an output optical waveguide 2 and a connecting optical waveguide 4, which are connected with each other in series. A first recess 13A and a second recess 13B are formed in a positional relationship of opposite directions with respect to an axial direction of an optic axis of light that is inputted through the input optical waveguide 1, transmitted through the first optical waveguide 3A, the connecting optical waveguide 4 and the second optical waveguide 3B and outputted from the output optical waveguide 2. Further, a first optical attenuating heater 6A and a second optical attenuating heater 6B are arranged so as to produce opposite refractive index distributions in the axial direction of the optic axis of the light that is inputted through the input optical waveguide 1, transmitted through the first optical waveguide 3A, the connecting optical waveguide 4 and the second optical waveguide 3B and outputted from the output optical waveguide 2, in the first optical waveguide 3A and the second optical waveguide 3B. The optical attenuator capable of reducing a polarization dependent loss for a desired optical attenuation is provided without utilizing an interference of lights.
