摘要: An optical module includes an emitter-side mounting substrate, a receiver-side mounting substrate and an external waveguide substrate. The mounting substrate is provided with a waveguide having a core and a pair of fitting recesses. The external waveguide substrate is provided with an external waveguide having a core, a pair of fitting tabs and a lap joint portion. As the fitting tabs are fitted into the respective fitting recesses, the mounting substrate and the external waveguide substrate are joined together, the two cores are aligned with each other, and the lap joint portion is positioned to overlap the mounting substrate.

摘要: Disclosed is an optical module which improves optical coupling efficiency either when configured to receive an optical signal from an optical fiber with a light receiving element or when configured to receive an optical signal from a light emitting element with an optical fiber. The optical module includes: a substrate (1) having in the surface thereof a first groove (1a) and a second groove (1b) formed, with this second groove (1b) being configured to have a substantially V-shaped cross section formed deeper than the first groove and being formed in continuation from the first groove; and an internal waveguide (16) provided within the first groove (1a) of the substrate (1). The optical further modules a mirror portion (15) for changing an optical path, provided at the front end of the first groove (1a); an optical element (12a) mounted on the surface of the substrate (1) so as to face the mirror portion (15), and configured to emit an optical signal to a core (17) of the internal waveguide (16) via the mirror portion (15). Moreover, the optical module further includes an optical fiber (2) having a fiber cladding (22) placed within the second groove (1b) and a fiber core (21) optically connected to the core (17) of the internal waveguide (16).

摘要: There is provided an optical module in which leaked light or the like from a plurality of optical elements on the same substrate is made less likely to affect adjacent optical elements, and a cross-talk noise can be thereby significantly reduced. The optical module includes an internal waveguide in a first trench of a substrate, a mirror section, and optical elements. A plurality of the first trenches of the substrate are formed independently of each other and substantially in parallel with each other, and lengths of adjacent first trenches from the end surface of the substrate are made different from each other. The optical elements are mounted on the surface of the substrate so as to oppose the minor sections formed at the tip portions of the first trenches having the different lengths.

摘要: In an optical attenuator, there are a first optical waveguide 3A connected to an input optical waveguide 1, a second optical waveguide 3B connected to an output optical waveguide 2 and a connecting optical waveguide 4, which are connected with each other in series. A first recess 13A and a second recess 13B are formed in a positional relationship of opposite directions with respect to an axial direction of an optic axis of light that is inputted through the input optical waveguide 1, transmitted through the first optical waveguide 3A, the connecting optical waveguide 4 and the second optical waveguide 3B and outputted from the output optical waveguide 2. Further, a first optical attenuating heater 6A and a second optical attenuating heater 6B are arranged so as to produce opposite refractive index distributions in the axial direction of the optic axis of the light that is inputted through the input optical waveguide 1, transmitted through the first optical waveguide 3A, the connecting optical waveguide 4 and the second optical waveguide 3B and outputted from the output optical waveguide 2, in the first optical waveguide 3A and the second optical waveguide 3B. The optical attenuator capable of reducing a polarization dependent loss for a desired optical attenuation is provided without utilizing an interference of lights.
