    摘要: A fixation system for a bone conduction device is disclosed. An abutment is coupled to a bone anchor such that vibrations applied to the abutment pass into the bone anchor. The abutment defines a conduction path to the bone anchor such that vibrations applied to the abutment are transferred to the bone anchor. The abutment comprises a plurality of interlocking stacked plates disposed adjacent the bone anchor, wherein the plates form part of the conduction path. The fixation system also comprises a vibratory coupler extending from the bone conduction device, comprising a second conduction surface and a magnet, wherein the magnet attracts to the abutment so as to couple the second conduction surface to the abutment, thereby enabling vibrations to pass through the conduction path. The plates are configured to slide laterally in response to tangential forces incident upon the abutment.

    摘要: The present invention provides a chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) composition for polishing a ruthenium-containing substrate in the presence of an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide without forming a toxic level of ruthenium tetroxide during the polishing process. The composition comprises a particulate abrasive (e.g., silica, alumina, and/or titania) suspended in an aqueous carrier containing a ruthenium-coordinating oxidized nitrogen ligand (N—O ligand), such as a nitroxide (e.g., 4-hydroxy-TEMPO). In the presence of the oxidizing agent, the N—O ligand prevents the deposition of ruthenium species having an oxidation state of IV or higher on the surface of the substrate, and concomitantly forms a soluble Ru(II) N—O coordination complex with oxidized ruthenium formed during CMP of the substrate. CMP methods for polishing ruthenium-containing surfaces with the CMP composition are also provided.

    摘要: A variable geometry turbine has an annular inlet passageway defined between a radial wall of a moveable wall member and a facing wall of the turbine housing. The moveable wall member is mounted within an annular cavity provided within the housing and having inner and outer annular surfaces. An annular seal is disposed between an annular flange of the moveable wall member and the adjacent inner or outer annular surface of the cavity. One or more inlet bypass passages are provided in the annular flange or said adjacent cavity surface, such that the annular seal and bypass passageways move axially relative to one another as the moveable wall member moves. The annular seal and the or each bypass passage are axially located such as the annular wall member approaches the facing wall of the housing the or each bypass passage permits the flow of exhaust gas through said cavity to the turbine wheel thereby bypassing the annular inlet passageway.

    摘要: A cochlear implant electrode assembly (10) comprising an elongate electrode carrier member (11), a bioresorbable stiffening element (15) and an outer layer (16) surrounding the stiffening element (15). The carrier member (11) is made of a resiliently flexible first material and has a plurality of electrodes (12) mounted thereon and has a first configuration selected to allow it to be inserted into an implantee's cochlea, and at least a second configuration wherein it is curved to match a surface of the cochlea. The bioresorbable stiffening element (15) has a configuration selected for biasing the elongate member (11) into the first configuration and is made of a second material relatively stiffer than the first material and which dissolves or softens on exposure to cochlear fluids to permit the elongate member (11) to at least approach or adopt the second configuration. The outer layer (16) surrounding the stiffening element (15) is made of a material sufficiently resiliently flexible to allow the elongate member (11) to at least approach or adopt the second configuration. The outer layer (16) has a first rate of cochlear fluid ingress therethrough and has at least one fluid ingress means (21) formed therein. The rate of cochlear fluid ingress through the fluid ingress means (21) is greater than the first rate of cochlear fluid ingress through the outer layer (16).
