摘要: Methods and apparatus particularly involving the separation of blood into blood components and the collection of such components are disclosed. In one aspect, an extra-corporeal method for the collection of plasma and red blood cells is provided, wherein the collection of plasma and red blood cells may occur simultaneously or subsequently utilizing the same dual stage blood processing vessel. The flow of blood to the blood processing vessel and return of uncollected blood components may be provided via a single needle, wherein blood is removed from and returned to a donor/patient during alternating blood removal and blood return submodes. Platelet separation and collection options are also described. In either case, prior to red blood cell collection, a set-up phase may be carried out to set a predetermined hematocrit and AC ratio. Replacement fluid delivery may optionally also be provided either substantially continuously during any collection phase(s) and/or in a bolus mode.

摘要: A water supply sub-system for connection to a main water supply system includes a storage tank having an inlet with a flow control valve for connection to the main water supply system. The sub-system may be disconnected from the main system and configured as a closed system for disinfecting the sub-system. An outlet line connects the storage tank to a pump that pumps water from the tank to a sub-system supply line. One or more branch connections may connect the sub-system supply line to high-demand water using devices, such as dialysis machines. The supply line may be a feedback loop. A shunt feedback loop parallel to the feedback loop of the supply line has a pressure control valve that regulates pressure in the supply line feedback loop. A filtration device may also be included to ensure the purity of the water circulating through the sub-system.

摘要: A method and apparatus for producing blood component products. In one embodiment, a plurality of a predetermined type of blood component is harvested from a source of whole blood. At least two on-line yield determination techniques are utilized to determine the yield for the harvested blood components. One is a predetermined yield prediction technique and the second is a predetermined yield monitoring technique, each of which are individually calibrated in relation to a predetermined off-line yield determination technique. The predetermined yield prediction and monitoring techniques each provide the yield for the harvested blood components and each is then utilized to provide a determined yield. Consequently, when the harvested blood components are packaged the determined yield my be associated therewith, thereby providing a blood component product.

摘要: A water supply sub-system for connection to a main water supply system, in which the sub-system includes: a storage tank having an inlet for connection to the main water supply system, an outlet and an outlet line connecting the outlet of the storage tank to a pump which pumps water from the tank to a sub-system supply line. One or more branch connections are connected to the sub-system supply line. Connectable to the one or more branch connections are one or more high-demand water using devices, such as dialyzer re-use machines. The subsystem may feed water to these high demand devices, and the sub-system and the one or more high demand devices may thus be substantially isolated from the main water supply system so that the high demands thereof will not adversely impact the water supply parameters. Thus, one or more lower demand machines, such as dialysis machines, may be connected to the main line without supply parameter disruption thereto. The sub-system preferably further includes a feedback loop and the storage tank preferably has a spray head disposed therein, the spray head being disposed to spray inlet and/or recirculated feed back water into said storage tank. Among other alternative options, an ultrafiltration device may also be included in the sub-system supply line to ensure the purity of the water circulating through the sub-system.

摘要: A centrifugal separation device for use in a fluid separation system to centrifugally separate a composite fluid into the composite components thereof. This centrifugal separation device includes a centrifugal rotor housing and a rotor which is disposed in a freely rotatable disposition within the housing, the rotor having a fluid receiving area and several fluid flow channels defined therein. A composite fluid to be separated is delivered to the fluid receiving area from which it travels through a radial fluid transport channel to a circumferential fluid separation channel where it is subjected to substantial centrifugal forces which separate the composite fluid into components which each then travel to distinct first and second separated fluid outlet channels. The separated fluids then exit from these outlet channels and are then moved from the separation device to a collection bag for storage or may then be returned to the donor. The first and second fluid outlet channels also have respective first and second lengths which are related to each other so as to provide a substantial hydraulic pressure balance for the respective separated fluids flowing therethrough. Such a pressure balance controls the interface of the separated fluid components within the circumferential separation channel. The preferred relationship of the respective first and second lengths of said first and second separated fluid outlet channels to each other which provides the hydraulic balance is null3gh3nullnull3gh3 wherein the first length of the first outlet channel is h3, and the second length of the second outlet channel is h3, wherein g is a gravitational acceleration value and null3 represents the density of the fluids in the first outlet channel and null3 represents the density of the fluids in the second outlet channel. The preferred centrifugal drive motor used here produces a rotating magnetic field, which co-acts with a magnetically reactive material disposed in the rotor to rotate the rotor with the rotating magnetic field. A loopless, sealless continuous flow centrifuge is thus useful herein.
