    摘要: A vehicle mounted parking device for use on a front wheel drive vehicle of the type having motive means and at least two front and two rear wheels. An auxiliary wheel is mounted substantially between and equidistant from the rear wheels and is mounted so as to permit movement relative to the vehicle frame between an out-of-the-way position and a lower operative ground engaging and rear end of the vehicle lifting position such that the rear wheels are raised off the ground. Power means is provided so that the auxiliary wheel may be forced under the rear of the car to raise the rear wheels and to place the rear end weight of the vehicle on the auxiliary wheel. The auxiliary wheel, when in operative position, allows lateral movement of the rear end of the vehicle with a minimum of longitudinal vehicle movement. The auxiliary wheel may be mounted so that its axis of rotation forms an angle between approximately 20.degree. and 60.degree. with the longitudinal center line of the vehicle so that the axis of rotation passes between the front and rear wheel on one side of said vehicle. The rotation of both front wheels by the motive means will cause the lateral movement of the rear portion of the vehicle said auxiliary wheel when said auxiliary wheel is in the ground engaging and rear end of the vehicle lifting position.

    摘要: The auxiliary wheel assembly includes a transverse axle member extending below the vehicle frame members, either forwardly or rearwardly of the vehicle rear wheels, a king pin assembly on each of the outer end portions of the axle member, an auxiliary wheel rotatably mounted on each of the king pin assemblies for steering movement and a tie rod interconnecting the auxiliary wheels so they steer together. The axle member is carried on one end of a pair of laterally spaced arms, the other end of which is pivotally mounted on the vehicle frame member between an operating position and a retracted position. The axle member has a generally U-shape with a central portion and upwardly offset outer end portions carrying the king pin assemblies so that the axle member can be retracted to a location with the central portion immediately adjacent to and the rotational axis of the auxiliary wheels located above the bottom edges of the vehicle frame members to thereby provide above-the-ground clearance of 11-12 inches or more. In one embodiment, the auxiliary wheels are connected to the vehicle front wheels through a hydraulic actuation system which is arranged so that the auxiliary wheels are steered along with the vehicle front wheels.

    摘要: A vehicle for traversing rough terrain, such as is commonly found in open mining operations and highway construction work. The vehicle is characterized by a movable frame structure. The frame includes a pair of elongated side members which are joined in a spaced apart relationship near the rear of the frame members by a first crossmember which is provided with a pivotal joint to permit the side members to rotate or pivot relative to each other. The front ends of the side members are connected by second and third crossmembers, each of which is pivotally connected at both ends to the side members to provide lateral restraint to the side members while the vehicle is traversing rough terrain. The second and third crossmembers are vertically displaced to prevent relative rotation of the side members about their longitudinal axes while permitting up and down movement of the forward ends of the side members as the side members rotate about the pivot point in the first crossmember.

The disclosure also relating to means for locking wheels of the trailer in relation to the bell crank arms so that the wheels are frictionally held on the ground while the tongue of the trailer is pulled forward and the bell crank arms are thereby pivoted relative to the frame for elevating it upwardly from the ground level.

    摘要: A six wheel material handling vehicle comprises an engine and a hydrostatic drive which functions both to propel the vehicle and to manipulate the vehicle by means of skid steering. The engine is mounted at one end of a frame, and apparatus is provided for receiving and vertically manipulating a load at the opposite end of the frame. The wheels are arranged in three pairs, with the center pair extending below a plane extending tangent to the bottoms of the wheels at the ends of the vehicle. During operation over adverse terrain, the vehicle is supported on all six wheels. During operation on a hard, smooth surface, the vehicle is supported either on the forward and center pairs of wheels or on the center and rearward pairs of wheels, depending on weight distribution.

    摘要: A family of vehicles for operation on land or in water are provided wherein the frame is external and mates with the bottom of the body by engaging elongated channels formed therein. The frame serves to support the retractable wheel assemblies and the detachable pontoons whereby stress and strain is isolated from the body. Resilient pad means is provided to cushion the engagement of the assembly. A tongue for attachment to a draft vehicle is slidably retractable so as to be out of the way during marine operations; the auxiliary ground supporting wheel and jackscrew being positioned in a horizontal position. The ground engaging wheels are mounted by compact and independently operating retractable mechanism including leaf and coil springs and a shock absorber which enable easy selection and assembly of conponent parts essential for wide range of load requirements of the family of vehicles; the compact design being enhanced by positioning of the main or leaf spring and the coil springs/shock absorber on opposite sides of the wheel suspending action lever. Latch means is provided to hold the assembly in the ground engaging position with hydraulic cylinder means serving to retract the wheels when desired. The wheel retracting mechanism is supported by a spindle which extends from the side of the frame to maintain the uncluttered and compact design of the assembly. The present invention relates broadly to a family of vehicles having component parts adapted to mate and work together for efficient operation on both land and sea, and more particularly, to a retractable wheel assembly for such vehicles.

    摘要: There is disclosed a means to convert a conventional two wheel drive tractor to four wheel drive utilizing the original tractor power unit, the transmission-differential and the frame comprising two walking beam frame assemblies connected to the original rear drive axle, each housing a sprocket for a front wheel, a sprocket for a rear wheel, a means to drive these wheels, and a chain to take the power from the drive means and transfer it to the wheel sprockets. The drive sprocket is connected to the tractor rear axle transmission-differential on each side of the tractor so that the power from the tractor is transmitted to the front and rear wheel sprockets by the continuous chain. A ball joint is added to each wheel which is connected to the wheel sprocket in the frame, a hydraulic cylinder is connected to each ball joint with a steering arm allowing the wheel to be steered hydraulically. A vertical hydraulic cylinder is connected to a yoke which extends over the hood of the tractor allowing the power unit to be raised or lowered hydraulically without affecting the plane of the four wheels of the tractor and acting as an oscillator on the front wheels.
