Abstract:
A metal rope (10) comprises wires (16, 18). The wires (16, 18) have a surface of stainless steel. At least those wires (18) exposed to the surface of the rope (10) are coated with a transparent polymer (22) on the stainless steel. The transparent polymer (22) is selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic polyesters, polyimides, polyamides and polyphtalamides, or a copolymer thereof. The metal rope (10) can be an element of a fabric, such as a woven (144) or knitted structure (150). The metal rope (10) be used in architectural, building and decorative applications.
Abstract:
A steel cord (16) adapted for the reinforcement of thermoplastic elastomers comprises more than one strand (18, 20). Each strand comprises two or more steel filaments (22, 24, 26, 28). At least some of said steel filaments are provided with a zinc coating (40), characterized in that said zinc coating (40) has a thickness lower than two micrometer and that an alloy layer zinc-steel (42) is present between the zinc coating and the steel.
Abstract:
This invention concerns the use, in a cold drawing lubricating solution, as adhesive and lubricating agent, for a steel wire trimmed with brass and rubber, of an aqueous suspension comprising at least a cobalt and/or nickel salt compound of a saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acid (i), or a phosphate ester (ii), or a cobalt and/or nickel boroacylate (iii); and at least a non-ionic or anionic surfactant; the compound (i), (ii), and/or (iii)/surfactant weight ratio ranging between 0.5 and 10. The invention also concerns said suspension and preparation methods thereof. The invention further concerns a cold drawing lubricating solution comprising said suspension.
Abstract:
A rope comprising a plurality of wires (2, 3, 4) made of a steel wire being twisted together; at least the wires which are arranged in such a manner as to be disposed on an outer surface of the rope (1) being made of a plated steel wire wherein a corrosion resistance is superior; at least said wires which are located in a center of the rope not being made of the wire wherein the corrosion resistance is superior.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for manufacturing corrosion resistant cable. In the process, a corrosion resistant, organic based, alkyl silicate-zinc coating solution is applied to wire as the wire is twisted into cable. The solution dries on the wire in air, leaving an inorganic silicate-zinc coating on the wire. The cable is then coated with a plastic. The process is particularly useful for manufacturing brake cables.
Abstract:
The adhesion of brass plated steel cord to rubber is improved by treating the cord in a dilute acidic alcohol dip followed by treatment with H.sub.2 S gas or by treating the cord in a dilute aqueous ammonia dip, preferably followed by treatment with H.sub.2 S gas, before combining the cord with a vulcanizable rubber compound and vulcanizing the same.
Abstract:
A method of making wire rope which when finished comprises a plural number of wires assembled in a twisted state. Each of said wires is first electroplated with zinc and thence diametrically adjusted as to its length by the application of a cold working thereto. Then the wire rope is further electroplated with tin thereby obtaining corrosion-proof and solderable property besides becoming resistant against friction and the like due to its surface lubrication in comparison with conventional wire ropes.
