    摘要: The invention provides a novel composition useful as a heat-resistant coating material on the surface of a metal or ceramic article or as an adhesive agent for bonding metal articles, ceramic articles, or articles of a metal and a ceramic. The adhesive strength of the composition is so strong that no peeling takes place even after many repeated cycles of rapid heating and cooling. The composition comprises a refractory powder of an inorganic oxide, such as alumina and silica; a powdery inorganic compound having cation-exchangeability and a layered structure, such as mica; and an alkali metal silicate or aluminate as a binder. The maximum particle diameter of the powdery inorganic compound having a layered structure is important and relative to the average particle diameter of the refractory powder.

    摘要: A polymeric binder composition for refractory aggregates is disclosed. The binder is a resole type phenolic resin, solvent and a tar, pitch or mixtures thereof. The solvent has a boiling point of greater than 75.degree. C. and is added to the resole type phenolic resin to impart a viscosity range of between 1 to 1000 poise. The tar/pitch component is combined in the solvent-resin mixture, and is incorporated within the ratios of 30:70 to 70:30 with relation to the phenolic resin. The binder results in a high carbon binder.

    摘要: Carbon in the form of graphite is commonly used in refractories for metallurgical purposes because of its ability to increase resistance to corrosion. However, if the graphite in the refractory becomes oxidized, it greatly loses this ability. For this reason, it is very important for a refractory to have good resistance to oxidation, but there are at present no refractories fully satisfactory from the standpoints of resistance to oxidation and hot strength.The present invention is a carbon-containing refractory having excellent resistance to oxidation and hot strength. These favorable properties are obtained by the addition in the refractory of both boron carbide and metal powder, the powder comprising at least one metal selected from Al, Si, Fe, and Ni.

    摘要: A method of gunning a basic gunning refractory onto a hot or cold surface to provide a gunned coating or filling, by a nozzle mixing method, the gunning refractory containing a basic refractory as aggregate, not more than 5% by weight of at least one of organic fibrous materials and inorganic fibrous materials, and as a binder, at least one of phosphates and silicates, characterized in that the gunning refractory is fed to the nozzle under air pressure in the range of 1-10 Kg/cm.sup.2, the gunning refractory is then discharged while being mixed at the nozzle with 5-25% by weight of water under pressure in the range of 0.5-5 Kg/cm.sup.2 and while a rotary motion is imparted thereto, the gunning is commenced by first discharging air and water simultaneously and then the gunning refractory, and the distance between the nozzle discharge end and the surface is in the range of 0.15 to 1.00 m while the spray width is less than 1.00 m.

Preferably, the silicon nitride enters into the composition of the material in a proportion comprising between 70% and 80% of the total weight of the final product, and it is in addition obtained by reaction sintering. In the process for manufacturing the material, the silicon nitride and the binder are first mixed dry and then kneaded in a wet kneader.
