    摘要： An instrument (2) for use in manipulating an implant component, which has a face with two spaced apart edges, comprises a housing (4) and first and second arms (72,74) each having a finger (76,78) which can engage the implant component at respective edges of the face, the arms being mounted for sliding movement relative to the housing in which the fingers on the arms move along a common axis. A gear mechanism (70,124), by which the first and second arms are linked to one another, ensures that sliding movement of the first arm in a first direction relative to the housing is accompanied by equal sliding movement of the second arm in a second direction which is opposite to the first direction. A shaft (122) is mounted in the housing so that it can slide along a shaft axis which is perpendicular to the axis along which the fingers slide, the shaft has a bed (46) at its end for engaging the face of the implant component. The instrument includes a ramp surface (32,34,36,38) and a follower (125) which can move along the ramp surface with one of the ramp surface and the follower being fixed relative to the shaft so that the sliding position of the shaft relative to the housing along the shaft axis is determined by the position of the follower on the ramp surface. The position of the follower on the ramp surface varies according to the positions of the first and second arms relative to the housing.

    摘要： A prosthesis comprising: an inner layer (4) formed from a polyaryletherketone; a first outer layer (2a) adjacent to said inner layer formed from a porous polyaryletherketone, at least some of said pores having located therein material to promote osteointegration; and a second outer layer (2b) adjacent to said first outer layer formed from a porous polyaryletherketone, a portion of said pores being free of material to promote osteointegration. The invention also relates to a method of manufacture of the prosthesis. In an alternative arrangement, the prosthesis comprises: an inner layer formed from a polyaryletherketone; a first outer layer adjacent to said inner layer formed from a porous polyaryletherketone, at least some of said pores having located therein material to promote osteointegration having a crystallinity of from about 60% to about 90%; and a second outer layer adjacent to said first outer layer formed from a porous polyaryletherketone, at least a portion of said pores having located therein material to promote osteointegration having a crystallinity of less than about 50%.

    摘要： An alignment guide for use in femoral head surgery. The guide includes a support arm and a cannulated rod supported by, and adjustable with respect to, the support arm. The guide also includes two jaws. The jaws include a superior jaw and an inferior jaw. Each jaw has a proximal end connected to the support arm and a distal end for clamping to the neck of the femur in use. At least one of the jaws is movable from a first open position to a second clamping position. A toothed block is located on the inferior jaw as a biting element on the inferior jaw to improve, in use, the clamping of the jaw with the neck of the femur.

    摘要： A tibial prosthesis has a metal tray component (1) comprising a transverse member (3) with a peripheral upstanding rim (6) and a projecting stem (4). The upstanding rim (6) includes a posterior rim portion with an undercut lip forming a pair of recesses (7, 8) and an anterior rim portion with an open angled posterior surface portion (9) and a posteriorly projecting barbed portion (10). The prosthesis also includes a tibia insert (2) made of a plastics material which fits on the tibial implant (1) within the upstanding rim (6) and has on a posterior portion thereof a shaped contour (14, 15) adapted in use to fit snugly under the undercut lip and on an anterior portion thereof an anterior surface (13) having a taper angle substantially corresponding to the angle of the open angled posterior surface portion.
