摘要: An orthopaedic implant includes an implant body having a first surface, a second surface opposite the first surface, and a cavity formed therein that extends through the first surface and the second surface. The implant body has a third surface with at least one first opening formed therethrough to the cavity. The at least one first opening includes an outer portion having an outer diameter and an inner portion having an inner diameter. The implant includes a load bearing member including a porous material held within the cavity. The outer portion of the at least one first opening is configured to couple to a tool for receiving, from the tool, a material agent, and the inner portion of the at least one first opening is configured to couple to a plug for preventing the material agent from exiting the porous material via the at least one first opening.

摘要: The embodiments provide various interbody fusion spacers, or cages, for insertion between adjacent vertebrae. These intervertebral cages can restore and maintain intervertebral height of the spinal segment to be treated, and stabilize the spine by restoring sagittal balance and alignment. The cages may have a first, insertion configuration characterized by a reduced size at each of their insertion ends to facilitate insertion through a narrow access passage and into the intervertebral space. The cages may be expanded to a second, expanded size once implanted. In their second configuration, the cages are able to maintain the proper disc height and stabilize the spine by restoring sagittal balance and alignment. The intervertebral cages are configured to be able to adjust the angle of lordosis, and can accommodate larger lodortic angles in their second, expanded configuration. Further, these cages may promote fusion to further enhance spine stability by immobilizing the adjacent vertebral bodies.

摘要: The articulating joint prostheses of the invention demonstrate reduced wear and can include a cup (101) formed of UHMWPE. An insert (150) of a hard material, such as metal, ceramic or cross-linked UHMWPE is positioned within the cup at a location of the contact between the cup and head (102). The shape of either component of the kinematic pair may be modified so as to result in an annular surface contact between the two components, with the insert positioned at the annular surface contact. Fluid trapped between the two components within the inner contour of the annular contact area is pressurized under load due to elastic deformation of the components and exuded out through an inter-articular gap over the surface of contact of the insert. This aids lubrication and reduces wear.

摘要: The invention relates to an intervertebral fusion implant for fusing two adjacent vertebrae (9, 9′), comprising a base piece (2) and a top piece (3) which in each case are designed to come to rest against a facing end plate (92) of one of the adjacent vertebrae (9, 9′), wherein the top piece (3) is vertically adjustable relative to the base piece (2), wherein a ratchet device (4), which effects a vertical adjustment in steps and secures a set height against reversion, is provided between the base piece (2) and the top piece (3). Thus a defined expansion can be achieved which is dependent upon the number of actuations. Precise control over the state of expansion is enabled in a purely haptic manner. Furthermore, implantation instruments are provided which are configured as parallel spreaders and have a stop as spreading path limiter or co-operating force and path measuring device. Thus it can be implanted more reliably, wherein the risk of overloading or injury to the vertebrae and the nerves and ligaments of the vertebrae is decreased.

摘要: An implant for use in spinal surgery includes a resilient element having an inflatable cavity. It is formed of a biologically compatible material and is arranged for placement between end plates of adjacent vertebra. The implant may also include a wound disc replacement element. A method of performing spinal surgery on a patient includes securely mounting a patient onto a patient support table; imaging a spinal region of the patient; building up a three-dimensional image file of the spinal region of the patient; storing the image file; and utilizing the image file for planning and carrying out computer controlled spinal surgery on the patient utilizing the implant. A computer-controlled surgical implant system includes a steerable endosurgical implanting assembly operative to install the implant at a desired location in a patient; and a computerized controlled, which operates the steerable endosurgical implanting assembly.
