    摘要: The invention relates to time synchronization between network testing elements in distributed network monitoring and testing systems, and provides a condensed PTP process wherein the number of timing messages exchanged between master and slave in one iteration of the time synchronization process is reduced. Furthermore, timing messages are encrypted to provide for a more secure synchronization process. One aspect of the method provides for an automatic detection and adaptive handling of protocol stacks of received timing packets.

    摘要: Multi-mode diode emitters are stacked in a staircase formation to provide a spatially-multiplexed output. Improved coupling efficiency is achieved by providing tilted collimated output beams that determine an effective step height of the stepped structure. Since the effective step height is dependent on the tilt angle, a variable number of emitters can be used inside packages having a same physical step height, while still attaining high coupling efficiency.

    摘要: A change in loading conditions of fiber amplifiers in an optical communications network causes rapid variations in the gain profile of the amplifiers due to spectral hole burning and stimulated Raman scattering. An apparatus for reducing such gain profile variations is described which monitors optical signal perturbations and reacts by adjusting pump powers of the amplifiers and, or fast variable optical attenuator according to a pre-determined function stored in the form of constants in controller's memory. The optical signal is monitored as total power, and the power of light after passing through one or more optical filters. The light detection is relatively fast, whereby the gain profile variations are compensated by fast controlled variable optical attenuator and pump power adjustment upon the change in loading conditions.

    摘要: A controller for reducing a transient variation of gain of an optical amplifier is disclosed. The controller includes a control circuit adapted to generate an electrical signal mimicking optical gain transient variation upon an abrupt change in input loading conditions. The electrical signal is applied to a variable optical attenuator disposed downstream of the active optical fiber of the optical amplifier. The control circuit can be realized in a variety of ways, but preferably it includes a logarithmic amplifier and a high-pass filter sequentially connected. The logarithmic amplifier is connected to an input tap/photodetector, and the high-pass filter is connected to the variable optical attenuator.

By calculating a health score for each node of the network based on a plurality of measurements performed downstream from the nodes, the nodes and the downstream segments of the network may be ranked according to their health score values, and the maintenance of the network segments may be prioritized based on the health ranking of the corresponding nodes. The health score for a node may be computed based on a plurality of tilt- and modulation-normalized frequency scans of the network signal.

A subject identification or biometric device is used to identify the patient. A controller coupled to the portable spectrometer and the subject identification device identifies the medication by performing a chemometric analysis of the light spectrum. Based on the medication identified and the patient identified, the controller can determine if the medication is to be taken by the patient.

    摘要: An electro-optical phase modulator, dual polarization modulator applying that modulator and a phase modulation method are disclosed. A waveguide in an electro-optical substrate has at least two electrodes for modulating the waveguide. Each electrode receives a sequential bit of a precoded digital input and forms a shifting line from a first input end through interaction lengths near the waveguide causing modulation, shifted lengths distal from the waveguide for avoiding modulating the waveguide and transitions between these lengths by shifting the electrode away from or towards the waveguide. At least one electrode has a shorter interaction length closer to the input than a longer interaction length of the same electrode. Each electrode's modulation strength is proportional to its total interaction length, which doubles for each electrode, producing well matched S21 electro-optical responses from 10 kHz to 50 GHz, when shifted to account for the doubling.
