摘要: Disclosed are ophthalmic devices formed by a process comprising: (a) providing a reactive composition containing: (i) a polymerization initiator that is capable, upon a first activation, of forming two or more free radical groups, at least one of which is further activatable by subsequent activation; (ii) one or more ethylenically unsaturated compounds; and (iii) a crosslinker; (b) subjecting the reactive composition to a first activation step such that the reactive composition polymerizes therein to form a crosslinked substrate network containing a covalently bound activatable free radical initiator; (c) deactivating at least a portion of the covalently bound activatable free radical initiator at one or more selective regions of the crosslinked substrate network such that the crosslinked substrate network contains retained covalently bound activatable free radical initiator outside of the one or more selective regions and optionally within the one or more selective regions; (d) contacting the crosslinked substrate network with a grafting composition containing one or more ethylenically unsaturated compounds, wherein the contacting is conducted under conditions such that the grafting composition penetrates into the crosslinked substrate network; and (e) activating the retained covalently bound activatable free radical initiator such that the grafting composition polymerizes with the crosslinked substrate network, thereby forming grafted polymeric networks, outside of the selective regions and optionally partially within the selective regions.

摘要: A system of contact lenses includes at least two contact lenses, each lens having a visual correction for a non-rotationally symmetric eye aberration. Each lens has a different level or degree of a stabilization that is characterized by a thickness differential between a thickness of a stabilization zone and a thickness of a non-stabilization zone.

摘要: A contact lens package includes a base having a proximal end and a distal end, a solution well between the proximal end and the distal end, a contact lens support in the solution well, a top opening between the proximal end and the distal end and over the contact lens support, and a via through a wall of the base adjacent the well, the via providing a fluid exit for solution within well. A removable lid overlying the top opening may be removably affixed over the top opening such that a user may remove the lid to access the contact lens. Using this package, fluid can be drained away from the contact lens in the package before removal from the package by a user, thus providing good adhesion between a user's finger or applicator and the lens over prior packaging.

摘要: A contact lens having an electronic system is described herein to provide lens accommodation using a distance measurement determined from an ultrasound time of flight signal. In at least one embodiment, the contact lens includes an ultrasound module, a system controller, a timing circuit, and an actuator. In at least one embodiment, the ultrasound module includes at least one transducer configured to emit a sound pressure wave outwardly and receive a reflected sound pressure wave from an object. A timer may track an elapsed time between generation and detection of the sound pressure wave by the at least one transducer to determine the distance to the object. In at least one embodiment, lens accommodation is further achieved using a communication link between a pair of contact lenses to determine a convergence angle based on independent distance measurements generated by each contact lens.

摘要: Described herein are systems and/or methods for forming an ophthalmic lens. An example method may comprise a step of determining a power profile based on a power profile function defined by a base optical power, an amount of spherical aberration at a radial distance from a geometric center of the lens, and a bump function. The example method may comprise a step of adjusting the power profile based at least on minimizing a shape metric of a through-focus curve.
