摘要: A patient support system having multiple patient support layers for reducing and preventing the development of bed sores in bedridden patients. A top patient support surface is provided by an anti-shear cover layer. The anti-shear cover layer being operable to reduce lateral shear forces experienced by a patient moving across the patient support surface. One or more fluid pouches or bladders are provided to form a fluid bladder layer for reducing normal pressures and forces experienced by the patient. The fluid bladder layer being releasably or integrally secured to the top surface of an inflatable air mattress. Means are provided operable to secure the anti-shear cover layer and fluid bladder layer in overlapping relation to the inflatable air mattress. Also provided is a means for adjusting the temperature of the fluid contained within the fluid bladder layer.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for preventing bed sores in a bedridden patient. A patient-supporting low air loss bed includes a frame, a first set of air bags for supporting a patient thereon mounted transversely on the frame, and a second set of substantially rectangular air bags for supporting a patient thereon mounted substantially transversely on the frame, and all of the air bags are connected to a gas source. The configuration of the air bags is such that when the first set of air bags is inflated, the patient supported thereon in moved toward the first side of the frame of the low air loss bed and when the second set of air bags is inflated while the first set of air bags is deflated, the patient is moved toward the second side of the low air loss bed. The configuration of the air bags also retains the patient on the top surface of the air bags when the patient is rolled in one direction or the other. The operator of the low air loss bed defines the pressures in individual air bags corresponding to each of three positions to which the patient is rotated. The pressures are maintained by a feedback control system which actuates valves connecting the gas source to separate sets of air bags. The three positions to be sequentially attained thereby causing controlled oscillation of the patient from one side of the bed frame to the other. Because each rotation position corresponds to operator defined pressures, the oscillation is customized for individuals of different body weights.

摘要: An air sac for use on a low air loss bed. The air sac is provided with a releasable connector for retaining the air sac to the low air loss bed and with a nipple for receiving air from a gas supply source to inflate the air sac. The air sac is also provided with a cutout which allows the patient to be rolled toward one end of the air sac when the air sac is inflated. A pillar is provided on the end of the air sac toward which the patient is rolled when the air sac is inflated to retain the patient on the air sac. The air sacs are arranged in sets with every other sac mounted to the frame of the low air loss bed in alternating arrangement whereby the patient is rolled first in one direction when the air sacs of one set are inflated and then back in the other direction when the air sacs in the first set are deflated and the air sacs in the second set are inflated.

摘要: A patient interface system integral with a critical care bed for allowing the acquisition, analysis, display, and conveyance of patient-related data from a variety of transducers. The system is adapted to recognize and interpret each type of signal being received, despite the type and/or make of the particular transducers. The system is also adapted to simultaneously display data traces and representative readings from a variety of transducers simultaneously on a single screen detachably mounted to the bed. The display screen is pivotally mounted for ease of use and may be detached from the bed together with the main processor when the corresponding features are not desired. The bed is adapted with electronic connection sockets along each side of the patient surface to present convenient connections for patient transducer leads. The system has resident memory for storing data to enable trend analysis or downloading for patient data records. Bedside medical devices can either be connected to the device by cable connections or by use of wireless connections and is capable of controlling various medical devices related to the bed or patient, potentially including patient turn actuators, scales, inflation devices and others.

摘要: A fastening system includes a membrane assembly which can comprise a pair of body panels secured together at a seam. The membrane panels can comprise a semi-permeable material. A sheath assembly has a tubular configuration with proximate and distal ends and a sheath passage extending therebetween. The sheath assembly can be fastened to the membrane assembly by adhesively securing the sheath assembly adjacent to its proximate end between the membrane panels at the membrane assembly seam. A sheath-to-tube fastener is provided for fastening the sheath assembly to a tube. In one embodiment of the present invention a surgical sponge is fastened to the membranes in fluidic connection with the sheath, which is fastened to a suction tube for drawing blood from a surgical site. A method of treating surface wounds such as burns, pressure ulcers and skin graft donor sites comprises the steps of applying a dressing including a foam section to the wound, adhesively applying a polymer sheet to the foam section, connecting a suction tube to with the foam section, applying negative pressure to the wound through the section tube by use of a motorized pump and directing fluid from the surface wound through the foam section by the polymer sheet.

摘要: A bed for maintaining a patient body with the head in any desired angular position relative to the feet, and for continuously rotating the patient so that one side of the patient is lower than the other, comprises a floor engaging base on which is mounted a cantilever frame elevatable to any desired angular position relative to the base. A bed table subframe is pivotally mounted to the free end of the cantilever frame and adjustable in a vertical plane to accomplish either Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg therapy on the patient. Pivot connections are provided between the patient support table and the table subframe for effecting the selective movement of the support table about one or the other of two horizontally spaced, longitudinally extending axes. Patient restraining elements are mounted to the sides of the patient supporting table to prevent movement of the patient in any of the various positions to which the support table may be shifted.

摘要: A therapeutic mattress for bed ridden patients comprises a plurality of inflatable tubular elements fabricated from a low air loss material which are disposed in side by side, transverse relationship to a mattress supporting surface. The air pressure within the various tubular elements is cyclically varied to produce a wave-like deformation of the patient supporting surfaces of the tubular elements which progresses longitudinally along a selected portion of the length of the mattress.

摘要: A tube holder comprised of a foam strip which has apertures in the strip running the length of the strip at spaced intervals. The resilient nature of the foam facilitates holding a trachea or nasogastric tube sufficiently firmly in place when the strip is wrapped around the patient's head and two of the apertures are aligned so that the tube can be inserted through the apertures into a patient's body orifice. The apertures may be circular or slits. An alternative embodiment uses a similar foam material but has a single aperture at one end for inserting the tube through, with the other end of the strip wrapping around a person's head and being wrapped around the tube and fixed by Velcro or similar substances.

摘要: A medical device is provided for applying compressive pressures against a patient's foot. The device comprises first and second panels of flexible material secured to one another to form an inflatable bag to be fitted upon the foot. The bag has first and second separate fluid bladders. The first fluid bladder is adapted to engage a first portion of the foot and the second fluid bladder is adapted to engage a second portion of the foot. A boot is provided for holding the inflatable bag to the foot. A fluid supply is provided for applying pressurized fluid to the first and second fluid bladders such that the first fluid bladder applies a first compressive pressure upon the first portion of the foot and the second fluid bladder applies a second compressive pressure upon the second portion of the foot. A safety vent is associated with one of the inflatable bag and the fluid supply.
