    摘要: A reclaimable release coating composition is provided which includes a blend of an adhesion promoter and a silicone release agent which may be applied from an aqueous solution, dispersion or emulsion. The components form regions of adhesion promoting sites disrupted by regions of release sites on the surface of a release backing substrate coated with the composition. The different regions are substantially homogeneously distributed across the entirety of the release surface. When used as a release coating for a backing to protect an adhesive, a controlled release force of a predictable value may be obtained by providing a known weight ratio of adhesion promoter to silicone release agent in the coating composition. A substantially linear relationship is also provided between the release force required to peel a non-silicone adhesive from the release coating surface, and the weight ratio of vinyl-functional polyorganosiloxane oil to hydrogen-functional siloxane crosslinker in the release agent, such that a consistent, uniform and repeatable release force from the surface may be obtained.

    摘要: A method is provided for forming a dissolvable or strippable polymeric release coating on the surface of flexible web, forming an overcoated metallized or optically variable layer on said release coating, and stripping or dissolving the release coating to release the overcoated layer. The release coating comprises a polymer of crotonic acid which is soluble in a solvent such as acetone. The polymer may be a copolymer of crotonic acid and at least one vinyl ester such as vinyl acetate. The release coating may be formed during an in-line process which begins with drawing the flexible web from a molten polymeric material. The methods are particularly advantageous for forming optically variable flakes and multilayered optically variable devices.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a self-supporting polymer film with a silicone-containing coating layer on the front surface that is capable of releasing free silicone oil and a slip control coating on the back surface, where the slip control coating has an exposed surface adapted to contact the free silicone oil. The slip control coating comprises a binder, preferably a water-soluble copolyester comprising about 50 to about 98 mol percent isophthalic acid, about 2 to about 20 mol percent of at least one sulfomonomer containing a sulfonate group attached to a dicarboxylic nucleus, and about 100 mol percent of at least one copolymerizable glycol having from about 2 to about 11 carbon atoms; and also includes a coupler, preferably a silane. A method for controlling the slip of silicone coated film by coating the back side of the film with this slip control coating is also disclosed.

    摘要: A method is provided for forming a strippable or dissolvable release coating on the surface of substrate such as a flexible polymeric film or web. The release coating is subsequently coated with a layer of material and then dissolved in a solvent to release the layer. The release coating is made from a copolymer of methylmethacrylate and ethylacrylate or from a homopolymer of polyacrylic acid. Release coatings made of methylmethacrylate and ethylacrylate copolymers having glass transition temperatures of about 60.degree. C. or greater, or made of a ipolyacrylic acid homopolymer having a glass transition temperature of about 100.degree. C. or higher, are also provided. The release coatings provide excellent supporting substrates for the formation of an overcoated metallized layer, are readily strippable in acetone, and can be formed during an in-line process which begins with drawing a flexible film or web from a molten polymeric material. Methods are also provided for making metallized layers used in the production of optically variable flakes and devices.
