    摘要: A head mounted communication system provides interactive visual and audio communications between a user of the head mounted system and an operator of a remote system. The head mounted system includes a camera to pick up an image within the user's field of view. A display and optics are provided for projecting an enlarged image of displayed information at a distance from the user so as to be superimposed on the user's view of the real world. The system also includes a transmitter and receiver for providing two-way wireless communication between the head mounted system and the remote system so as to allow the operator of the remote system to see what the user of the head mounted system is viewing and to allow the user of the head mounted system to view via the display and optics video inputs received from the remote system so that they appear to be superimposed upon the real world.

    摘要: An automated vehicle return system wherein status information of a rented vehicle is automatically tracked during the rental period and is transmitted to a selected destination computer upon driving the vehicle into a return area. Electronic vehicle monitoring circuitry is tied to existing components within the vehicle to keep track of the status of the vehicle during the rental period. The status information includes, miles driven, fuel level, pick up time, drop off time, wear and tear on the vehicle, etc. The status information is used by the destination computer to generate a bill for the rented vehicle.

    摘要: A pen based workslate computer having a detachable, rechargeable stylus is disclosed. The workslate computer includes a housing supporting computer electronics and a stylus charging station defining an opening adapted to receive the detachable stylus. The housing also supports a visible interactive display screen assembly including a sensing assembly. Depending on the position of actuators of the stylus, signal generation circuitry of the stylus generates one of a plurality of signals having different frequencies. The generated signal is received by the sensing assembly and correlated with a position of the stylus with respect to the display screen assembly by the sensing assembly thereby allowing data and/or commands to be input by an operator manipulating a signal generation end of the stylus to "pick" icons or other representations displayed on a LCD screen. When the stylus is inserted in the charging station opening it is held in place by a clamping mechanism and charging circuitry of the charging station recharges a rechargeable power source of the stylus.

Upon the output of the primary power supply falling below a level suitable for properly powering the computing device, the boost circuit feeds the computing device power from the secondary power supply. The boost circuit also boosts the power output of the secondary power supply so that the secondary power supply can be smaller and more light weight.

    摘要: A low voltage battery pack monitoring circuit for a battery powered electronic device is disclosed. The circuit utilizes low battery and power failure set point voltages and first and second comparison circuits to compare voltage across the device battery pack to the set point voltages. If the battery pack output voltage falls below the low battery pack set point voltages, the first comparison circuit sends a signal to a microprocessor causing a low battery indicator light to be actuated. If the battery pack output voltage continues to decrease below the power failure set point voltage, the second comparison circuit includes a comparator which changes output state and turns off selected electronic systems of the device and the device enters a suspend mode. The low battery pack set point voltage value and the power failure set point voltage value are determined using an empirical look up table.

The apparatus includes a single power supply which operates under the control of a microprocessor to charge a plurality of battery packs disposed in respective charging stations. Associated with each charging station is a wiring harness assembly which includes an EEPROM memory chip having one or more stored charging algorithms for the type or types of battery packs to be charged at that charging station. The microprocessor reads the charging algorithm from a charging station's memory chip when a battery pack is inserted in the charging station. The microprocessor utilizes a feedback control loop including a resistor network to regulate the charging current and charging voltage supplied to each battery pack being charged.

    摘要: A circuit for energizing an electroluminescent panel of a portable data collection device is disclosed. The circuit includes voltage step up circuit and a switching circuit. The voltage step up circuit converts a +5 volt DC signal output from power regulation circuitry of the portable data collection device to a +100 volt essentially constant DC signal. The voltage step up circuit includes a switching regulation integrated circuit chip coupled in series to a toroid inductor. The inductor is coupled through a diode to a smoothing capacitor. The switching circuit converts the +100 volt DC signal to effectively a .+-.100 volt (200 volts peak-to-peak), 500 Hertz (Hz) signal across electrodes of the electroluminescent panel. The switching circuit includes a 555 IC timer chip coupled to an H bridge configuration of switching transistors.

    摘要: There is disclosed herein a data entry device designed for general use, and whose functional configuration may be readily changed to meet the specific needs of a number of different customers, each requiring a special assortment of operational features. The device (10) includes a housing (12) having a keyboard (14) including function control and data entry portions (18 and 20). In one embodiment, a plurality of different overlays (22) may be received over the function control portion of the keyboard. Each overlay carries an array of key labels (26), and is pliant enough to permit an underlying key to be actuated by depressing an appropriate key label. Tabs (30, 32, 34) projecting from the frame (24) carrying the overlay actuate switches (132, 134, 136) in the device to identify which overlay is carried by that frame. Other means of identifying the overlays to the data entry device are also shown. A different, permanent set of keys is provided for data entry in this embodiment. In another embodiment, an interchangeable mylar overlay (154) is also provided for the data entry portion of the keyboard. If the device includes a readout or display, the portion of the device (168) carrying legends for the display can also be changed with the overlay.
