A thermal head printer for printing but not perforating a substantially light-insensitive thermographic material, the thermal printer comprising: a transport system having a transport direction, n thermal heads, where n is an integer, each of the thermal heads comprising an array of substantially rectangular energizable heating elements, the heating elements having a length Ln in the transport direction and a pitch Pn between adjacent heating elements, and a means for supplying electrical energy to each of the substantially rectangular energizable heating elements in at least one of the thermal heads, the transport system being capable of transporting the light-insensitive thermographic material in contact or proximity with at least one of the thermal heads, wherein at least one of the thermal heads comprises heating elements for which Ln/Pn is between 0.25 and 0.88; a first process for printing a substantially light-insensitive thermographic material with the above-described thermal head printer; a second process for printing a substantially light-insensitive thermographic material at different printing speeds with a thermal head comprising heating elements without significant variation in image tone, wherein the length of the heating elements in the transport direction of the substantially light-insensitive thermographic material decreases with decreasing printing speed; and a third process for printing a substantially light-insensitive thermographic material at different printing speeds with a different thermal head at each printing speed without significant variation in image tone, wherein each of said different thermal heads comprises heating elements with a different length in the transport direction of the substantially light-insensitive thermographic material and the length of the heating elements in the transport direction of the substantially light-insensitive thermographic material decreases with decreasing printing speed.

A cost efficient method of making a lithographic printing plate precursor is disclosed, the method comprising the steps of coating a silver halide emulsion layer on a hydrophilic base which is provided with physical development nuclei; simultaneously with the preceding step, coating on the emulsion layer a solution that induces silver salt diffusion transfer reversal development of the silver halide; allowing diffusion of complexed silver ions to the physical development nuclei, thereby forming silver metal that is deposited on the hydrophilic base; a wash-off step wherein the emulsion layer is removed from the silver metal. The material thus obtained can be exposed image-wise in heat-mode, e.g. by means of an infrared laser, thereby ablating the silver metal and revealing the hydrophilic base at exposed areas. Immediately after exposure, it can be used as a lithographic printing plate without the need for a wet processing step.

The laminate can be provided with functional layers, e.g. using a web coating or printing process, and can then be cut easily in the space between the segments so as to obtain a plurality of glass laminates.

A method of making a lithographic image is disclosed, which comprises the steps of providing a lithographic imaging material comprising a support and a heat- or light-sensitive coating; image-wise exposure of the coating to heat or light, thereby obtaining a latent image in said coating, the latent image consisting of a set of exposed areas in the coating and a set of non-exposed areas in the coating; development of the latent image by supplying a processing liquid to the coating and evacuating, by means of a suction device, the processing liquid together with (i) substances removed from the exposed areas without removing such substances from the non-exposed areas or together with (ii) substances removed from the non-exposed areas without removing such substances from the exposed areas. The method is especially suitable for processing a lithographic printing plate while it is mounted in a plate-setter or a printing press, without the risk of damaging or contaminating electro-optical components of such equipment.

A disposable camera is also described which is loaded with a film by this process using this apparatus.
