摘要: In a display device and a display driver, when a grayscale of a display image is equal to or lower than a specific grayscale value obtained from a histogram of the display image, a display grayscale is extended with a linear function. On the other hand, when a grayscale of a display image is equal to or higher than the specific grayscale value, histogram equalization of a part higher than the specific grayscale value is performed, and the display grayscale is extended with a non-linear function obtained from the histogram equalization.

摘要: A display brightness control circuit of a liquid crystal display device includes a logarithmic-linear converting circuit for converting an illuminance signal having a logarithmic relationship with incident light into a linear signal. When an output of an external light sensor is a logarithmic signal, the logarithmic signal is converted into a linear signal through the logarithmic-linear converting circuit, and when an output of the external light sensor is a linear signal, the logarithmic-linear converting circuit is not involved. The logarithmic-linear converting circuit corresponds to an exponential circuit which is an inverse function of a logarithm log. Further, when even the same logarithmic output illuminance sensor is different in input-output characteristics, setting of the abovementioned exponential circuit can be changed.

摘要: The display driver achieves the balance between the image quality and power-cutting ratio by controlling the backlight dimming ratio to keep the image quality after backlight dimming constant. The display driver uses e.g. MSE (Mean Square Error) as an index of image quality. The reference gradation control unit controls the data decompression and backlight dimming ratios, thereby to keep the image quality after backlight dimming constant. Assuming display data decompression, and backlight dimming, the error calculating unit calculates a decrease of luminance for an input displayed image as MSE based on the decompression and dimming ratios of a preceding frame, in advance. In the case of MSE over a predetermined value, the decompression unit and light-adjustment control unit decrease the decompression and dimming ratios to below those of the preceding frame, respectively. In the case of MSE below the value, the ratios are lowered to below those of the preceding frame.

摘要: The display driver includes: a display data compression circuit; a recording circuit; a display data decompression circuit; and an output circuit. Further, the display driver is provided with a compressibility setting circuit. The display data compression circuit has the function of compressing the display data according to a compressibility set by the compressibility setting circuit. With the display driver arranged like this, the power consumption can be reduced by increasing the compressibility for a displayed image such that the image quality is not noticeably deteriorated even with the compressibility increased. Further, for the displayed image such that the image quality is noticeably deteriorated with the compressibility increased, a sufficient image quality after data decompression can be secured by lowering the compressibility.

摘要: A display driver for outputting gradation voltages corresponding to gradation data from an external device to pixels. The display driver includes a generator for generating a plurality of gradation voltages having a plurality of levels based on a reference voltage, and a selector for selecting at least one gradation voltage corresponding to the gradation data from the plurality of gradation voltages generated by the generator. The gradation data includes multi-bits for each color of red, green and blue, and the generator outputs or stops outputting each gradation voltage according to data for color reduction from the external device. The generator stops outputting at least one gradation voltage that is unnecessary for displaying as a result of the color reduction, when the color of the gradation data is reduced according to the data for color reduction.

In addition, the driving circuit provided by the present invention is also characterized in that the time ratio of the first fractional time period is set at a relatively high value while the time ratios of the second and subsequent fractional time periods are each set at a relatively low value.

摘要: A generation circuit generates gray scale voltages having a plurality of levels for positive polarity and gray scale voltages having a plurality of levels for negative polarity; wherein said generation circuit, in the mode in which the number of colors to be displayed on a display panel is small, decreases a current flowing into an internal circuit which generates a gray scale voltage of an intermediate level other than two gray scale voltages of a gray scale voltage of the most lowest level and a gray scale voltage of the most highest level among the gray scale voltages of said plurality of levels, in comparison to a current flowing in the other mode; and wherein said selection circuit, in the mode in which the number of colors to be displayed on said display panel is small, selects said gray scale voltage according to said display data, from the two gray scale voltages of said most lowest level gray scale voltage and said most highest level gray scale voltage which are generated from said generation circuit.
