Abstract:
A multiwalled carbon nanotube includes at least 2 carbon nanotube walls. The multiwalled carbon nanotube have an outer surface and at least a portion of an oxygen functional group is attached to the outer surface thereof. Up to 5 atomic percent of the multiwalled carbon nanotube surface is an oxygen functional group. The surface atomic ratio of carbon to oxygen is between 17:1 and 19:1. A photocatalysis process to produce hydrogen and at least one solid carbon nanostructure includes the steps of: applying light to saturated hydrocarbons in the presence of a metal particle supported metal oxide photocatalyst to produce at least hydrogen gas and at least one solid carbon nanostructure; separating the hydrogen from at least one solid carbon nanostructure; and collecting the separated hydrogen and the at least one solid carbon nanostructure.
Abstract:
Provided is a Group 9 novel metal catalyst complex further comprising a ketone-containing cocatalyst. The metal catalyst complex is useful in generating olefins from alkanes with great efficiency. In one embodiment, provided is an iridium catalyst complex useful in the dehydrogenation of alkanes comprising a ketone-containing cocatalyst and iridium complexed with a tridentate ligand. Also provided is a novel dehydrogenation method which utilizes the catalyst composition. In other embodiments, a novel process for preparing oligomers from alkanes utilizing the catalyst composition is provided.

Abstract:
Biological samples, such as saliva, are commonly collected on a swab and subsequently transferred to an absorbent storage medium. Embodiments of the present invention provide a biological sample collection device comprising a collection portion and a body portion, the body portion including a holding portion for holding a biological sample storage medium, and a sample transfer means, such as a cover. The collection portion can be arranged in a first position separated from the body portion for collecting a sample, and in a second position at least partly between the sample transfer means and the holding portion, with the sample transfer means being operable to push the collection portion towards a position at which the holding means is arranged to hold the biological sample storage medium, enabling a sample held in the collection portion to be transferred to the latter. This provides an improved means of collecting a biological sample.
Abstract:
Provided are a method, system, and program for receiving a request to remove a record. A determination is made as to whether a state associated with the record includes at least one hold state and whether the state associated with the record includes at least a retention period that has not expired. The request to remove the record is denied in response to determining that the state associated with the record includes at least one of at least one hold state and one retention period that has not expired.
Abstract:
A computer-based system and method calculates and facilitates revenue accrual, for making larger, less frequent payments of estimated taxes or other obligations. Payer preferences are applied to satisfy variable payment intervals, amounts, and available resources. The obligation, required payments, and set-aside schedules are recalculated as needed, under payer and/or system control. Excess accruals are minimized; set-aside schedules are configurable. The system may be self-contained, handheld, or accessed remotely. Automatic datalinks move information and command fund transfers from the payer's bank, to accrue funds and make payments to other accounts. A service host may support a plurality of payers to make set-asides and payments at various levels as needed, on an individual or batch basis, including individual taxpayer enrollment for batch file tax payments by service providers. Some embodiments can be embedded to enhance the capabilities of other systems.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods of reducing plasma triglyceride level in subjects by administering docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The method can comprise administering daily to the subject a dosage form comprising docosahexaenoic acid ester substantially free of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), wherein the DHA is derived from an algal source. In some embodiments, the method comprises administering daily to the subject a dosage form comprising DHA ester substantially free of EPA, wherein the DHA ester is about 60% to about 99.5% (w/w) of the total fatty acid content of the dosage form. In some embodiments, the method comprises administering daily to the subject a dosage form comprising about 200 mg to about 4 g of DHA ester substantially free of EPA. In some embodiments, the foregoing methods also result in a lowering of the amount of total cholesterol in the subject.
Abstract:
A process for producing titania from a solid, iron-containing titaniferous material (such as ilmenite) is disclosed. The process includes a first step of treating iron-containing titaniferous material under conditions that reduce ferric ions to ferrous ions in the titaniferous material. Thereafter the process include steps of leaching treated titaniferous material and forming a leach liquor that includes an acidic solution of titanyl sulfate and iron sulfate and recovering titania from the leach liquor.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is disclosed for regulating the cold spot temperature of a light emitting enclosure. A cold spot regulation system defines and controls the temperature of the cold spot. The cold spot regulation system includes an interface housing secured to the light emitting enclosure and two ducts extending from the interface housing. The cold spot regulation system uses a coolant fluid to lower the operating temperature of the light emitting enclosure. The coolant fluid is diverted into one of the ducts. The coolant fluid is passed by the cold spot of the light emitting enclosure and released out the other duct.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for call completion using information extracted from an active application on a computing machine is described. Call initiation may be accomplished using a “warm-line” feature in which a default number is dialled after a predetermined time of an off-hook condition of a voice terminal, if no digits are dialled after the voice terminal is taken off-hook. The number dialled is a number used to connect the telephone set to computer-Controlled Telephony Integration hardware (CTI). On receipt of the call, the CTI hardware extracts Automatic Number Identification (ANI) information to determine the number of the calling party and verifies that the calling party is the subscriber to the service. If the calling party is the subscriber to the service, a query is sent to an IP address associated with the subscriber to retrieve information from an active application for completing a second leg of the call. The information may be a telephone number, or information which would permit the retrieval of a telephone number such as a name and address or an e-mail address. A directory service may be used to convert the information into a telephone number. Once a telephone number is obtained, the CTI hardware is used to complete the second leg of the call and the two calls are joined together. The advantage is a fast, convenient method of completing calls without dialling digits or manually converting one form of information into a diallable number.
