摘要: Pressure ulcer detection systems and related methods are disclosed. Images of a patient supported by a person support apparatus are captured and analyzed to identify areas of the patient's skin which have a color different from surrounding areas of the patient's skin by a predetermined amount. A dielectric material attached with a positively charged electrode and a negatively charged electrode is configured to be in contact with the patient's skin. Differences in electric potential between areas of skin relative to surrounding areas of skin are identified.

摘要: An occupant support (20) includes an intermediate layer (26, 30, 120) and a wicking layer (52) atop the intermediate layer. The wicking layer comprises a first region (62) having a lower moisture wick rate (W1) and a second region (64) having a higher wick rate (W2). A moisture management cover (52) for use with an occupant support article has discrete higher (64) and lower (62) wick rate regions. A related method for transporting moisture away from a target region of an occupant support comprises distributing the moisture over an area beyond area A and exposing the distributed moisture to a fluid stream capable of receiving the moisture.

摘要: A support surface for general skin cooling, or reducing the incidence and promoting the healing of bedsores, includes: (a) at least one thermal layer comprising: a phase change material having a melting point of between about 18 and 32 degrees Centigrade; a gel or viscous fluid carrier in which the phase change material is substantially evenly distributed; and a fluid-impermeable, conformable envelope surrounding the phase change material and the carrier; (b) at least one conformable compression support layer beneath and adjacent to the thermal layer; (c) at least one conformable base support layer beneath and adjacent to the compression layer, the base support layer having a higher indentor load deflection (ILD) than the compression layer. A preferred embodiment, with or without the thermal layer, includes a heat tube layer. Another preferred embodiment includes an envelope containing phase change material in a carrier material, without either of the support layers.

摘要: One embodiment of a topper assembly for a mattress comprises a liquid permeable cover layer, a liquid transport layer beneath the cover layer that directs liquid transport therethrough in a preferred direction, a liquid impermeable base layer beneath the transport layer, an air mover in fluid communication with the transport layer and a reservoir positioned downstream of the liquid transport layer. Operation of the air mover moves air and liquid through the liquid transport layer in the preferred direction such that the reservoir captures liquid discharged from the liquid transport layer. A related support apparatus comprises a mattress and a condition management assembly atop the mattress. The condition management assembly includes the liquid transport layer, the liquid impermeable base layer, the air mover and the reservoir.

摘要: A system for wound care using air fluidized therapy is disclosed. The system comprises a wound care device with a reservoir of beads and a filter sheet contains the beads within the reservoir while contacting the user's skin during use. Air flow through the reservoir of beads fluidizes the beads during use. The wound care device is equipped with a quick disconnect coupling and can be separated from the fluid line and disposed off.

摘要: A cooling system 70 for an occupant 62 of an occupant support is a targeted cooling system comprising a coolant conduit 100 having an inlet 102 for receiving coolant from a source of coolant and an outlet 104 for discharging the coolant to a destination 120. The conduit is nonpermanently and manually shape adjustable, shape stable subsequent to adjustment, and removably securable to one or both of the occupant support and the occupant. In one embodiment the destination is an ambient environment selected to achieve targeted coolant delivery to a localized region of the occupant's body. A cooling glove 190 to be worn by a user has at least one coolant intake 210 and at least one ofa) a coolant passage 240 extending from the coolant intake to an exhaust opening 260; andb) a cooperative relationship with the user which defines a fluid pathway 220 bounded in part by the glove and in part by the user. The exhaust opening 260 exhausts coolant from the passage 240 to an ambient environment, to the fluid pathway, or to both. Coolant received by the fluid pathway discharges to an ambient environment.
