摘要: The removal of manufacturing oils from a pre-potted, wound bundle of hollow fibers used in dialysis equipment, is rapidly accomplished by subjecting the fiber assembly to centrifugal forces acting longitudinally of the fibers. Wicking pads may be used at the outer ends of the fibers during the centrifuging step if desired to counteract the capillary action of the fibers. Following the centrifuging, the fibers are repeatedly immersed, in a vertical direction, in a solvent into which any oil trapped in the pores of the fiber walls diffuses. The repeated rise and fall of the solvent in the fiber lumen continually re-introduces fresh solvent into the lumen to leach oil out of the pores at a rapid rate.In the same manner, moisture is then removed from the fibers by alternately evacuating the fiber lumens in a vacuum chamber and refilling them with warm, very dry air to rapidly remove any moisture contained in the cellulose of the fibers.

摘要: A non-frangible releasable coupling device as described herein includes an explosive element that, when detonated, bends a load carrying element in a manner that releases the coupled components from each other. Before detonation, the load carrying element is under axial compressive stress imparted by the components. Upon detonation, the explosive element causes the load carrying element to bend into a retraction cavity formed in one of the components, thus allowing the components to displace relative to each other.

摘要: A method and mold for making an ampule for a needleless or jet injector device. The tip of a core pin is guided into a clearance hole sufficiently large to prevent the tip from hitting the mold cavity. Plastic is injected into the mold and flows into the space between the core pin tip and the clearance hole forming a vestigial nozzle pilot cylinder around and over the ampule nozzle. The ampule is removed from the mold and the vestigial nozzle pilot cylinder is removed to form a finished ampule. A core pin tip is made of drawn wire or is separately replaceable on the core pin. A nozzle of an ampule is cast in place. An ampule is molded with an enlarged nozzle and a separate orifice is installed in the ampule to provide the desired nozzle opening.

摘要: A needleless injection device includes an initiator valve controlling flow of compressed gas into a reservoir. A poppet valve connecting to the reservoir has a gas pressure regulation end to regulate flow from the initiator valve into the reservoir. A clamp piston is driven forward by gas pressure from the reservoir and causes jaws to clamp onto a plunger extending into an ampule. The poppet valve opens when reservoir pressure reaches the cracking pressure of the poppet valve. Gas from the reservoir rushes through the poppet valve into a drive chamber and forces a drive piston, containing the clamp piston and jaws, forward causing the plunger to slide into the ampule. A jet of injectant is discharged from the nozzle of the ampule and penetrates through the patient's skin. An improved method of needleless injection uses a specific pressure profile, ampule nozzle diameter, patient, injection site, and injectant parameters.

摘要: An electrically powered jet injector impacts a plunger driver against a plunger to generate a high initial pressure pulse, for piercing the skin. The plunger driver then continues to generate a lower delivery pressure until the injection is completed. A microprocessor within the injector controls the speed and direction of the electric motor which moves the plunger driver. The injector provides a subcutaneous injection especially useful for injecting insulin to treat diabetes.
