Abstract: A battery module for use in an electric vehicle includes a housing and a member provided within the housing that contains a plurality of electrochemical cells. The member includes apertures in an outer surface of the member that allow a thermal management fluid to exit the member after passing adjacent outer surfaces of the plurality of the electrochemical cells within the member. The apertures include apertures of a first size near a first end of the member and apertures of a second size larger than the first size near a second opposite end of the member.

Abstract: A continuous process for recovery of oil and energy from oil shale. Particulate oil shale (1) is mixed with hot particulate heat carrier (2) containing free lime and retorted at conventional retorting temperatures in the presence of a purge gas (3). The purge gas comprises compounds which can react with the free lime. The mixture of spent shale and heat carrier solids (5) is separated from the product gas and vapors (4) and the solids are combusted in air (6),(7) with the optional addition of materials (8) to control the free lime content of the ash product from combustion. A stream of particles (12), extracted from the combustor is separated into a larger portion of coarser hot shale ash which is recirculated to the retorting zone as heat carrier. A smaller stream (15) is disposed of as waste after separating the energy (17) therefrom. The sensible and chemical heat from the waste solids and the sensible heat from the gases leaving the combustion zone, is recovered (J).

Abstract: A storage system includes an elongated, generally rectangular housing which has a forward-facing surface in the vehicle defining the rear seat backs of a vehicle and which has an open opposite end for extending into the trunk of a vehicle. The housing is slidably mounted to move from a retracted position substantially within the vehicle trunk in which the forward-facing surface defines the rear seat back rests of the rear passenger area of a vehicle and an extended position in which the generally rectangular housing is moved forwardly to expand the available storage space within the trunk. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the generally rectangular storage housing includes at least one pivoted access door such that access can be obtained to the rectangular storage housing from within the rear seat passenger area of the vehicle. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the access means includes a pivoted top lid. In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the storage system further includes a pivoted forward-facing door to provide direct access to the trunk regardless of the position of the storage housing.
