摘要:
Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a peripheral neuropathy monitor may be incorporated into a scale form factor or other device for monitoring a trend towards peripheral neuropathy by a monitored user or patient. The peripheral neuropathy monitor may include a heating element, a cooling element, and/or a vibrating element, and may be capable of performing the sensitivity of the user to hot, cold, and/or vibrations, and monitor such trends over time to facilitate detecting the onset of peripheral neuropathy. The peripheral neuropathy monitor may be capable of communicating with a remote device via a wired or wireless network for operating the monitor, and for storing and/or analyzing the test results.

According to one embodiment, an apparatus is presented. The apparatus includes a storage device, a hypervisor, a plurality of partitions mapped by the hypervisor, and a key created by the hypervisor to prevent one of the plurality of partitions from accessing a protected block range of the storage device. In one embodiment, a disk controller is coupled to the plurality of partitions to interface with the storage device, and the disk controller is programmed with the key in order to restrict access to the protected block range.

An integrated circuit device, such as a processor initiates a transition to a first power management state. The device then receives a request to exit the first power management state and, in response exits the first power management state at the highest of a reference operating voltage, such as a minimum operating voltage, and a current voltage. For one aspect, an analog to digital converter may be used to determine the current voltage level. Further, for one aspect the first power management state may be a deeper sleep (C4) state, and the processor may quickly exit to a C2 state in response to a bus event such as a bus snoop.

A protected configuration space is implemented as at least one range of memory addresses that are mapped to logic external to system memory. The memory addresses access logic that performs control and status operations pertaining to a protected operating environment. Some of the addresses may access protected configuration registers. Commands having destination addresses within the protected configuration space may not be completed if the commands are not issued by a processor, or if the commands are not part of a group of one or more designated protected commands. A separately addressable non-protected configuration space may also be implemented, accessible by processors, non-processors and/or non-protected commands.

A system management interrupt (SMI) generation circuitry is provided to a universal serial bus (USB) complaint personal computer (PC) for generating a SMI whenever the USB controller attempts to generate a data-in interrupt received response to data in from a USB compatible keyboard/pointing device, and whenever an application attempts to perform a direct data-out to the AT keyboard controller. Additionally, a SMI handler is provided to service the SMIs, rerouting the data in to the appropriate input port of the AT keyboard controller, simulating receipt of data from an attached keyboard, thereby providing the data-in to the non-USB cognition application, and rerouting the data-out to the USB controller, thereby providing the data to the targeted USB keyboard/pointing device. As a result, compatibility is maintained between a USB compatible keyboard/pointing device, and non-USB cognition applications that perform direct data-in and data-out against the keyboard controllers.

A method and apparatus for controlling accesses to DMA control registers, specifically operating according to a Distributed Direct Memory Access (DDMA) protocol. When an access to a peripheral device ends in a Master Abort due to the failure of the peripheral device to respond to the DDMA Master component during a DDMA transaction, a System Management Interrupt (SMI#) is generated to the central processing unit. In the resulting execution of the System Management Mode code by the CPU, the cause of the peripheral component not responding (e.g., that the peripheral is in a low power mode, the connection between the DDMA master and the peripheral is interrupted, etc.) is determined. The CPU, executing SMM code, takes steps to correct the problem. For example, if the peripheral is powered down, the CPU will power it up so that the DDMA transaction can subsequently occur. Alternatively, when BIOS is used to power down a peripheral device, the DDMA Master component can determine the peripheral's power status prior to trying the DMA access. If the peripheral device is powered down, the DDMA Master component issues an SMI# to the CPU to cause the peripheral to be powered up prior to the DDMA transaction.

Methods and systems may provide for generating text based on speech input and recognizing one or more hand gestures. Additionally, an adaptation of the text may be conducted based on the hand gestures. In one example, the hand gestures are associated with operations such as punctuation insertion operations, cursor movement operations, text selection operations, capitalization operations, pause of speech recognition operations, resume of speech recognition operations, application-specific actions, and so forth, wherein the adaptation of the text includes the associated operation.

The embodiments of the invention relate to a novel apparatus and method for a battery charging system in a shared environment, as well as for monitoring battery usage and tracking battery location. In one embodiment, the battery charging chute comprises a housing configured to receive a battery via an insertion slot and configured to dispense a battery through a dispensing slot. Within the housing, charging terminals are disposed is a spaced or continuous manner, to come in contact with the charging terminals on batteries inserted into the housing. Optionally, solenoid-controlled gates may be employed at the insertion slot and dispensing slot, to inhibit the removal or insertion of batteries from the incorrect location, to ensure that the battery with the longest residence time in the chute is dispensed to a user. The housing may also include a radio-frequency identification tag reader to permit inventorying and tracking of batteries inserted into the housing.
