    摘要: Circuits and methods for current limited DC-to-DC converters having multiple power sources have been disclosed. One of multiple power sources is activated by a multiplexer. A current sensing unit, deployed close to the multiplexer, detects if an input current to the DC-to-DC converter has reached a current limit. In case the current limit is reached a signal is sent to the DC-to-DC converter to reduce the current drawn the DC-to-DC converter.

    摘要: Circuits and methods for dynamic adjustment of the current limit of a power management unit to avoid unwanted automatic interruption of the power flow have been disclosed. The invention can be applied to switched and linear DC-to-DC converters. The power management unit is automatically adjusted to the output resistance of a power source (including interconnect resistance). The invention maximizes the time and hence the power transferred from a power management unit to the system (including the battery, in case of battery operated systems). The input current is reduced, thus increasing the input voltage in case of a high voltage drop across the internal resistance including interconnections between power source and power management unit.

    摘要: Novel power-management chips (PMCS) and a related method to increase the flexibility of power-management chips and to disburden a main controller of mobile electronic devices, such as e.g. a mobile phone, have been achieved. Key of the invention is to implement a microprocessor system on a power-management chip. This microprocessor, having a flash-memory and a RAM has either no or minimum interaction with a main controller of the mobile electronic device since the microprocessor on the PMC is controlling all power supply requirements of the mobile electronic device. The novel PMC is more flexible; since it is free programmable and customers can adapt their PMC more efficiently to the specific purposes of their application.

    摘要: A circuit and a related method to sense the inductor current of CD/DC buck converters have been achieved. The inductor current is sensed by generation of a voltage drop across a fully integrated sense resistor. The voltage drop is proportional to the inductor current in the pass device by supplying a fraction of the inductor current out of a source-follower, which matches to the pass device. The source of said source-follower is connected to a sense-resistor that is connected to the same supply as the pass device. The current, which is needed to generate the voltage drop, is fed back into the inductor current minimizing therefore the efficiency loss. Mirroring, amplification and offset correction of the voltage drop across the sense-resistor is performed by using a single matching pair of source-follower, which is supplied by a current tracking the internal reference voltage and the process variations of the resistors.

    摘要: Circuits and methods for a switched power converter providing charge power for at least one battery and at the same time delivering current to operate an electronic device, wherein the converter is enabled to operate out of current limit mode, for the maximum possible range of system load requirements, have been achieved. The input current of the power converter is measured within each cycle-by-cycle, i.e. within each cycle of an external clock reference and the charge current is reduced if the input current exceeds a defined portion, e.g. 80% of the maximum allowable input current. The power converter may only enter current limited operation after the charge current has been already reduced to zero. Operating out of current limit mode ensures a maximum efficiency of the converter, maximize the current deliverable to a given load and minimizes subharmonics in the output current and voltage, thereby minimizing interference with other system component.

    摘要: A motor bridge driver interface, implemented in an ASIC using cost-efficient CMOS technology, is designed to control four external MOS power transistors in a H-bridge configuration for DC-motor driving to achieve accurate and fast switching. Main components of the -interface are comprising a charge pump for generating the control voltage for the high-side N-channel MOS transistors, high-side (HSD) circuits, low-side (LSD) circuits and a complex digital interface for supplying the control signals in a programmable timing scheme. A “strong” charge pump is used to realize a simple CMOS switch to steer the output to the high-side transistors of said H-bridge. The motor bridge is connected to the battery supply by an additional N-channel MOS transistor to implement a reverse supply protection.
