A device for controlling the conical scanning frequency of conical scanning radar systems. An antenna illuminator is caused to revolve by means of a three-phase asynchronous rotary field motor. The angular frequency of conical scanning is changed in a random or pseudo-random manner by means of a reference generator associated with the asynchronous motor, a random or pseudo-random signal generator, and a circuit comparing the signal of the reference generator and the signal of the signal generator. The comparison circuit provides "greater," "less" and "equal" outputs. A switching device driven by those outputs couples a braking magnetic-field or the three-phase supply to the motor, depending upon whether a "greater" or "less" output, respectively is the present comparison circuit. The "equal" output also controls the change of state for the random or pseudo-random signal generator.

A voltage converter includes a high voltage regulator, a buck converter and a dual input linear regulator unit. The high voltage regulator converts a rectified voltage to a first load voltage. The rectified voltage is rectified from an input voltage. The buck converter generates an output voltage having a first level based on the rectified voltage during a stabilizing period and provides a transition detection signal that is enabled when the output voltage transitions to the first level. The stabilizing period is successive to an initializing period. The dual input linear regulator unit receives the first load voltage, the output voltage and a reference voltage, generates a second load voltage based on the first load voltage during the initializing period, and generates the second load voltage based on the output voltage during the stabilizing period.

An electronic device for rapidly tuning a voltage controlled oscillator to the radar carrier frequency of each of the individual radar pulses. A frequency discriminator (1) of the quadricorrelator type is supplied with the incoming pulses and with the output of the VCO (5) to provide the control voltage to the VCO (5) via amplifying stages (2), (4) and a sample-and-hold circuit (3) that maintains the tuned frequency for time durations greater than 100 usec. The operating frequency range of the device is between 6GHz-18GHz.
