Abstract: An electrical power distribution network that is able to provide power to a plurality of loads, such as electric vehicle charging stations, on demand. The network includes a DC bus and a plurality of power sources that may be a number of renewable energy power sources, such as an array of photovoltaic (PV) cells and wind turbines, and a number of energy storage devices, such as batteries, that are electrically coupled to the DC bus. The network also includes a DC-to-AC power conversion system (PCS) that is electrically coupled to the DC bus and an AC utility feed line that is part of an electrical grid. The network further includes a system controller that controls which of the power sources and the utility grid provides power to the loads in response to a power demand from the loads and the available power from the power sources and the grid.

The vehicle battery charger can be separate from the vehicle, can be at least partially integrated into the vehicle, can include a transmitter and/or a receiver capable of communication with a controller that is remote from the vehicle and vehicle charger, and can be controlled by a user or another party (e.g., a power utility) to control battery charging based upon a time of day, cost of power, or other factors.

Abstract: An electric work vehicle includes: a battery pack that is arranged between a left rear wheel arranged outside of a left frame and a right rear wheel arranged outside of a right frame, the front end of the battery pack being located forward of an axle center of a rear wheel unit; a left motor that is arranged above the battery pack, in the periphery of the left rear wheel, receives a supply of power from the battery pack, and transmits rotational power to the left rear wheel; and a right motor that is arranged above the battery pack, in the periphery of the right rear wheel, receives a supply of power from the battery pack, and transmits rotational power to the right rear wheel.

Abstract: A remote smart-power server receives reservation data indicating parameters for a planned vehicle use, such as pick-up time, pick-up location, and drop-off time. Systems of the present technology are in various embodiments used in connection with electric vehicles. The server interacts with a smart-powering station system to determine available vehicles at the location, including vehicles having sufficient charge, or chargeable to sufficient charge by the pick-up time. The server presents available vehicles to a user device and receives selection of a preferred vehicle. The server sends the selection to the smart-powering station, which implements a charging sequence to ensure the preferred vehicle is charged as needed for the planned vehicle use. Charging is in various implementations performed automatically, such as by computing controls and robotic machinery. The technology in various embodiments includes any of the relevant apparatus of the arrangement, code and algorithms thereof, and processes performed thereby.

Abstract: An electric vehicle charging station that is installed in a residence is coupled with a main circuit breaker in an electrical service panel. The charging station includes a charging point connection that couples an electric vehicle to a set of service drop power lines that provide electricity from a power grid to the residence; a current control device coupled to control the amount of electric current that can be drawn from the set of service drop power lines by an the electric vehicle through the charging point connection; a receiver to receive energy readings from one or more current monitors that indicate an amount of current is being drawn from the set of service drop power lines; and a set of control modules to cause the current control device to control the amount of current that can be drawn by the electric vehicle through the charging point connection based on the received energy readings to avoid tripping the main circuit breaker.

Abstract: Implementations of the present invention contemplate utilizing a communicative infrastructure represented by a telematics unit of an electric vehicle and a telematics service provider (TSP) communicatively coupled to the telematics unit to control an amount of power reserved for a charging event of the vehicle. Specifically, the TSP utilizes information provided by the telematics unit, electrical power utilities, and electrical power metering devices to determine the characteristics of electrical energy available for charging the vehicle. The TSP can utilize the characteristics of the available energy along with additional information, such as charging preferences established by a subscriber of the TSP and vehicle use schedules, to determine an amount of power to reserve for the charging event. The amount of power reserved for the charging event may be determined based on cost, greenhouse gas emissions, a combination thereof, and on other factors.
