Abstract:
An optical assembly comprises a connecting body (1) consisting of at least a first and a second part (3, 4), the body (1) being connected to an assembly means (2) of a ceramic material wherein the assembly means (2) consists of at least a first and a second part (17, 18) separated by a gap (19).
Abstract:
A composite body is joined together of at least two bodies (13, 16), wherein the first body (16) is a component—or monolithically comprises a component—with very stringent requirements on the precision of its surface (typically an optical component) and wherein the second body (13) can have the broadest diversity of functions, for example carrying parts of a position-measuring arrangement or optical surfaces. Each of the two bodies (13, 16) has at least one connecting surface area (21), and the at least two respective connecting surface areas (21) lie opposite each other. Within the at least one connecting surface area (21) of one of the two bodies (13, 16) or in the proximity of said connecting surface area (21), at least one constructive means is arranged for isolating the first body (16) and/or the second body (13) from deformation.
Abstract:
An entertainment service consists of program material which is encoded, supplied and stored in receivers for later retrieval at the convenience of a subscriber or user. A number of unique options are available and include a format for the presentation of audio/video commercials and other message materials without interfering with the delivery of the program materials within which the message materials are to be inserted. Message materials may be targeted at specific program subscriber groups and specific program categories. The entertainment materials are electronically supplied in a unique format of the program and message materials selectively interspersed with program break flags and message flags. The flags identify and provide preselected access to the materials previously determined by the subscriber's service. The program break flags indicate where message materials are to be inserted in the program material, and the message flags identify the specific message to be inserted as well as provide time related information. The subscriber may select program material at his or her convenience in non-real time from a menu corresponding to the subscribed services.
Abstract:
A system for providing security and tracking data for rental video media, including digital video discs and digital video cassettes. Those new formats for video players and media allow for inclusion of security features which both allow tracking of rental of such media and prevent unauthorized rental thereof. Each player includes a decision circuit which plays a particular disc (or tape) only if a player identification number recorded on a special separate authorization memory card is the same as the player identification stored in the player, and if a movie identification number optically read from the disc matches a movie identification number recorded on the special card. A corresponding apparatus is provided at the video rental store which, at the time of rental, records on the authorization card in encrypted form the movie identification number and the number of the particular disc player for which that rental is intended. The encryption uses the private key of a public key system, the public key and the modulus being pre-recorded on the optical portion of the disc.
Abstract:
An aperture correction system employing a tapped delay line includes an integral detection/gating circuit, whereby the combination generates an improved video detail signal by removing the objectionable noise and low amplitude components which are emphasized during the aperture correction process, while retaining the original shape of the high frequency video detail transitions as enhanced by the aperture correction process. The objectionable noise cancellation is provided by selectively gating the aperture correction signal via the detection/gating circuit in response to a selected gating waveform provided from the video detail signal itself. The detection/gating circuit may be selectively disabled to cause severe attenuation of the waveform at selected low and high frequencies outside the passband of the system.

Abstract:
There is provided an optical element comprising an optical element body, a reflecting area and an optical passageway. The optical element body defines an axis of rotational symmetry. The reflecting area is disposed on the optical element body and adapted to be optically used in an exposure process. The optical passageway is arranged within the optical element body and allows light to pass the optical element body, the optical passageway being arranged eccentrically with respect to the axis of rotational symmetry.
Abstract:
The data rate of speech and non-speech audio is selectively reduced by respective compression techniques based upon the information content of the type of signal. A composite audio information signal formed of speech and non-speech audio is applied to both a voice encoder and a wide-band audio compression encoder. An audio-type detection circuit examines the speech spectrum as well as the entire frequency spectrum and dynamic range of the audio information and generates a selection signal indicating whether the signal is speech or non-speech audio. A composite encoded audio signal is produced by intermingling the outputs of the encoders in response to the selection signal. The composite encoded audio signal and an identification signal indicative of the audio signal type are transmitted to respective receivers at the reduced data rates for storage, and subsequent decoding and retrieval by a listener as an audible signal in response to the transmitted identification signal.
Abstract:
An optical subassembly with an optical element, for example a mirror element (7), has an optical surface (9) and bearing points (12) arranged on the circumference. The optical element (7) is connected to a mount (13) at the bearing points (12) via connecting elements (14, 15, 16, 17, 18). Stress-decoupling cutouts, for example curved slots (11), are provided between the optical surface (9) and the bearing points (12).
Abstract:
A programming system in which entertainment and information programming is transmitted, received and stored in real time by a multitude of receivers. The stored programming subsequently may be retrieved by a user in non-real time at the user's convenience. This programming system is particularly adaptable for use with receivers located in moveable vehicles wherein, however, the mobile receivers must have access to the transmitted information, that is, to a transmitter, regardless of the extent of the vehicle's journey. To this end, one or more transmitters located within respective service areas transmit identical programming information along with respective transmitter location codes over different frequency channels, wherein each code also defines a transmitter priority of effective radiated power. As the vehicle moves within a service area, if a loss of signal occurs, the receiver selects the transmitter with the next highest priority from the transmitter location codes for that and neighboring overlapping service areas. The location codes previously are stored and periodically updated in the receiver memory. The transmitter location code may comprise a two byte word multiplexed with the information signal, wherein the first byte contains the stations or transmitter channel numbers within the respective service areas, and the second byte defines the priority of each transmitter in terms of effective radiating power.
