    摘要: A thermostatic device for selectively opening and closing one of more apertures used for controlling the flow of a coolant fluid includes a housing, at least one fixed element and at least one moveable element. The at least one fixed element is fixedly interconnected to the housing. The at least one moveable is moveably connected to the housing. A fluid path passes through the fixed element and the moveable element. The fluid path is opened and closed in response to movement of the moveable element relative to the fixed element such that when the moveable element is in a first position the fluid path is closed and when the moveable element is in a second position the fluid path is open. A temperature responsive bi-metal element is coupled to the moveable element for moving the moveable element between the first position and the second position.

    摘要: A fluid coupling assembly 10 is provided and includes a stationary housing 12, which h forms a first chamber 14; an inner housing or output member 16 which is rotatably disposed within chamber 14 and which forms a second chamber 18; and a rotor or drive member 20, which is rotatably disposed within chamber 18. An amount of fluid is contained within chambers 14 and 18 and is used to transmit torque between the rotor 20 and the inner housing 16. Assembly 10 further includes a pump assembly 24 which is effective to circulate the fluid through assembly 10. An electrical valve 30 is coupled to housing 12 and is effective to selectively control the flow of fluid into chambers 14 and 18. A water jacket 32 within housing 12 is used to cool the fluid flowing through assembly 10. Assembly 10 selectively transmits torque from rotor 20 to housing 16, thereby driving the rotation of a fan assembly 34. Valve 30 is selectively actuated according to a predetermined algorithm or program which controls the flow of fluid into rotor 20 and cavity 18, thereby controlling the torque and rotational speed transmitted to housing 16 from rotor 20.

    摘要: A viscous fluid clutch includes a rotor attached to an output from an engine, a stator attached to a fan assembly and a coil assembly having at least a portion attached to the stator. A first gap is defined between the rotor and the stator and a second gap is defined between the rotor and the coil assembly. The first and second gaps are filled with a magneto rheological (MR) fluid. The coil assembly creates a magnetic field in the first and second gaps to vary the viscosity of the MR fluid to produce a variable speed viscous fluid clutch. The coil assembly includes coil windings which are supplied with power through a slip ring assembly. Both the coil windings and the wiring between the slip ring assembly and the coil windings are isolated from the magneto rheological fluid.

    摘要: An oil cooler for a motor vehicle includes a fluid inlet tank and a fluid outlet tank. A plurality of heat transfer tubes provide constant fluid communication between the inlet tank and the outlet tank. A bypass arrangement selectively provides additional fluid communication between the fluid inlet tank and the fluid outlet. In this regard, the bypass arrangement provides additional fluid communication between the fluid inlet tank and the fluid outlet tank under a first operating condition and the bypass arrangement precludes additional fluid communication between the inlet tank and the outlet tank under a second operating condition. The bypass arrangement may include a bypass tube and means for selectively blocking the bypass tube. The means for selectively blocking the bypass tube may be automatically response to a change in oil temperature or a change in oil pressure.

    摘要: A viscous fluid clutch includes a housing which defines a chamber. A fan assembly is attached to the housing. A rotor is rotatably attached to the housing through a bearing. The bearing is disposed entirely within the chamber at a radially inner portion of the chamber. The viscous fluid is located within a radially outer portion of the chamber. The housing and the rotor form a labryinth passage between the outer portion of the chamber and the inner portion of the chamber. This labryinth passage encourages condensation of any oil vapors that may have formed at the shear point of the viscous fluid.
