The present relates to a method for providing a terminal with a service in a mobile communication system which includes transmitting to mobility management entity an attach request message for initiating registration of the terminal having a virtual IP address with the mobile communication system; registering, at the mobility management entity, location of the terminal with a home subscriber server; and completing the registration by transmitting an attach accept message from the mobility management entity to the terminal. The present invention is capable of registering a terminal with a mobile communication system initially without bearer path and IP address allocation and, when a packet address to the terminal occurs, allocating the radio resource, bearer resource, and IP address through paging procedure, thereby proving the UE with the service.

A base station having information of an idle mode user equipment transmits a connecting operation mode to the user equipment when the idle mode user equipment is connected to the base station. The user equipment transmits a small amount of data together with a connection request completion message to the base station. The base station transmits, over a network, the data received from the user equipment, without being interlinked with a mobility management entity, and the user equipment returns back to an idle operation mode after data transmission. Thus, the overhead required to support signaling of the base station for acquiring context information of the user equipment can be reduced in order to provide the user equipment with an efficient data transmission environment.

Disclosed is a method and system for mutually exchanging capability information of UEs for communication between a Circuit-Switched (CS) and IMS services (CSI) UE, which can use a CS call for voice communication while using an IMS session for PS service, and an IMS UE which uses an IMS session for both voice communication and PS service. A MGCF performs interworking of capability information between a CS message and an IMS message so that the IMS UE can process UE capability information through an IMS session request/response. When a call request message containing no capability information is created from a UE not supporting capability exchange, a CSI AS transfers the call request message to a peer UE after inserting estimable capability information of the UE into the call request message, and stores capability information of the counterpart UE for the UE.
