An automatic injector dispenses a predetermined dose of medicament without a user having to manually force the needle into an injection site. The automatic injector includes a needle cover having a locked retracted position with respect to the injector housing prior to a medicament dispensing operation. The needle cover is operative to engage an injection site prior to a medicament dispensing operation.
Abstract:
A dispensing brush is used to groom while deodorizing and/or styling the receiver. The receiver can be a human but is commonly a household pet such as a dog or cat. The brush is comprised of a head attached to a handle and includes a bristle cap mounted to the head. Within the handle or the head, an internal cavity is provided that is in communication with an intake reservoir. A pump is also provided within the head or handle of the brush with the intake of the pump in communication with the intake reservoir and a pump output provided through a void in the bristle cap. The intake reservoir includes a depression or other structure such as a wall to create a pocket of fluid, which is held in reserve in the internal cavity, thereby making it accessible to the intake of the pump even when the brush is moved in a variety of positions. The intake reservoir may also include a check valve to further aide in restricting fluid from flowing back into internal cavity from the intake reservoir. The ability of the brush to be manipulated in space without the pump “sucking air” is valuable in that the disclosed brush is commonly used to dispense the enclosed liquid concurrently with the act of brushing.

A user interface allows a user to input handwritten, key-press, and spoken text in a seamless, synchronized manner. A text input panel accepts soft keyboard presses and handwritten words, characters, and gestures. A text recognizer/synchronizer integrates textual input from various sources while recognizing and preserving the order in which a user entered text via the soft keyboard, via handwriting, and/or by speaking. Synchronized text may be displayed in a stage area of the text input panel before being passed to an operating system message router and/or an application program. While in handwriting recognition mode, various permutations and combinations of a word recognition area, a character recognition area, and a keybar/keypad may optionally be displayed.

Containers for automatic injectors and automatic injectors adapted for those containers are disclosed. The containers include structures adapted to retain and, optionally, cripple the needle of the automatic injector when the automatic injector is inserted into the container after use. Depending on the embodiment, an indicator may be included, either as part of the container or as part of the automatic injector, to indicate whether or not the automatic injector has been used. If the indicator is provided as a part of the automatic injector, a corresponding portion of the container may be formed of a light permeable material. The container may also include features, such as an eyelet over the closed end, designed to cushion the automatic injector. Cushioning and shock absorbing features may also be provided inside the container. A clip is also disclosed. The clip is designed to attach two or more containers together.

The alpha subunits of hemoglobin, which in nature are formed as separate polypeptide chains which bind noncovalently to the beta subunits, are here provided in the form of the novel molecule di-alpha globin, a single polypeptide chain defined by connecting the two alpha subunits either directly via peptide bond or indirectly by a flexible amino acid or peptide linker. Di-alpha globin may be combined in vivo or in vitro with beta globin and heme to form hemoglobin. Di-alpha globin is expressed by recombinant DNA techniques. Di-beta globin may be similarly obtained.
