摘要: A driving apparatus has driving circuits that supply driving energy to driven elements which form dots. The driving circuits are controlled by driving data indicating which driven elements are to be driven, and compensation data adjusting the amount of driving energy. The compensation data are stored in compensation memory circuits coupled to the driving circuits. A single data transfer means transfers the driving data to the driving circuits and the compensation data to the compensation memory circuits. If the driven elements are located on two or more different semiconductor chips, some of the compensation data preferably compensate for chip-to-chip differences, while other compensation data compensate for dot-to-dot differences within the same chip.

摘要: Bit data of a received video signal is partially converted into a first signal representing a data sequence corresponding to the resolution of an LED head. The remaining bit data of the received video signal, which are not converted into the first signal are converted into a second signal representing another data sequence corresponding to the resolution of an LED head. The LED head includes a resolution conversion circuit which converts the video data into the first signal and the second signal. The signals are stored in a shift register having a plurality of line buffers. The first signal is printed on a basic raster line and the second signal is printed on an additional raster line. An LED head drive energy with which basic raster lines are printed and another LED head drive energy with which additional raster lines are printed are set independently of each other.

摘要: Bit data of a received video signal is partially converted into a first signal representing a data sequence corresponding to the resolution of an LED head. The first signal is transmitted to the LED head in the form of a real printing data signal that is to be printed on a basic raster line in synchronism with a line timing signal. The remaining bit data of the received video signal, which are not converted into the first signal, are converted into a second signal representing another data sequence, and then stored in a line buffer. The second signal stored in the line buffer is transmitted to the LED head in the form of a real printing data signal that is to be printed on an additional raster line in synchronism with an additional line timing signal. The LED head drive energy with which the basic raster lines are printed and another LED head drive energy with which the additional raster lines are printed are set independently of each other.

摘要: A multivoltage power supply which can output a plurality of high voltages in parallel. The voltage values of the respective outputs are feedback to an A/D converter. Each feedback signal is converted to a digital signal and the difference between the digital signal and a corresponding predetermined output voltage is then calculated in the form of a digital value. This digital value is inputted to a corresponding auto-reload timer, whereby a pulse signal having a pulse width corresponding to the digital value is output at a predetermined frequency.

摘要: The operation of an automatic sheet feeder provided with a plurality of sheet hoppers which are used selectively to feed sheets to a printer is controlled. A control unit of the printer supplies a multiplex control signal including a hopper select signal and a sheet delivery signal to the automatic sheet feeder through a single signal line. The width of pulses of the hopper select signal is smaller than a predetermined time, while the width of the sheet delivery signal is greater than the predetermiend time. The pulses of the multiplex control signal are compared with the predetermined time to discriminate the hopper select signal and the sheet delivery signal from each other. That sheet hopper corresponding to the number of pulses of the hopper select signal is selected, and then the automatic feeding of sheets from the selected sheet hopper commences upon the reception of the sheet delivery signal.

摘要: In a printer that includes a carriage section having a print head with a plurality of drive coils provided therein, and a control unit having a power supply circuit supplies drive power to the print head, and a cable having conductors for connecting the control unit and the carriage section, a drive power supply node and discharge node in the carriage section are connected to an output terminal of the power supply circuit in the control unit via the cable. Drive power for the plurality of drive coils is supplied from the terminal of the power supply circuit through the cable and the drive power node, and magnetic energy accumulated in the drive coils is discharged through the discharge node and through the cable to the output terminal of the power supply circuit. Printer protection is achieved by detecting, in the carriage section, whether the discharge node is satisfactorily connected with the terminal of the power supply circuit. This is determined in accordance with the magnitude of the voltage applied to the discharge line. The printing operation is prevented if an unsatisfactory connection is detected.

摘要: A printing head drive circuit of a printer is mounted on the side of a carriage having a printing head attached thereto for a allowing said carriage to act as a heat sink. Hereby, no particular cooling means (heat sink, cooling fan and the like) is required for printing head drive elements. In addition, a controller and heat generating parts can be completely separated. Thus, it can be anticipated to reduce the number of parts and the cost required for assembling the whole structure as well as to improve reliability of the printing head drive circuit.

摘要: A method of automatically inserting a printing paper in a hopper of an automatic paper feeder or a manual insertion printing paper inserted from a manual paper input slot. Upon receiving an instruction to insert a printing paper by a printer, a platen is first rotated. Thereupon, provided the presence of the printing paper is detected by a sensor even with the platen being rotated by a prescribed amount, a paper feed motor of the automatic paper feeder is rotated for obtaining a printing paper from the hopper. While, provided the presence of a printing paper is detected before the platen is rotated by the prescribed amount, the paper feed motor is not rotated, it being assumed that the manual insertion of a printing paper has been already performed. After detected the presence of the printing paper, the platen is rotated by a prescribed amount to cause the printing paper to be moved to a position where a first line of the printing paper faces the face of the printing head.

摘要: In a printer in which a printing medium is moved by a line-feed stepping motor during line-feed operation, and the line-feed stepping motor is stopped during printing operation and in a ready state, the line-feed stepping motor is caused to generate a first holding torque for preventing unwanted movement of the printing medium while permitting the operator to feed the printing medium manually, in the ready state of the printer, and the line-feed stepping motor is caused to generate a second holding torque which is greater than the first holding torque, during the printing operation.
