Abstract: Methods and apparatus for stochastically heating charged reactants by applying a random (stochastic) voltage signal to a working electrode, thereby inducing a stochastic electric field. By agitating the charged species in the interfacial region adjacent the working electrode or other target substrate, the stochastic electric field increases the effective temperature of the charged species while scarcely affecting any surrounding neutral molecules (e.g., water). This effect increases the reaction rates in the interfacial region and can allow the reactants to achieve rates that are commensurate with physically inaccessible temperatures in common solutions.

Methods for producing a wheat plant produced by crossing the variety KS Territory with another wheat plant, and hybrid wheat seeds and plants produced by crossing the variety KS Territory with another wheat line or plant, and the creation of variants by backcrossing, mutagenesis or transformation of variety KS Territory are disclosed. Methods for producing other wheat varieties or breeding lines derived from wheat variety KS Territory and to wheat varieties or breeding lines produced by those methods are also provided.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of the invention are directed toward biodegradable films from distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS), especially sorghum DDGS, and methods of making the same. The films, which are suitable for use as packaging films, can be produced by directly conditioning the DDGS via a milling process, such as wet milling (e.g., colloid mill and ball milling) in water or a sodium hydroxide solution. The milled slurry is co-dissolved with plasticizers and stabilizers (preferably all less than 1% by weight) in a mixture of water and an organic solvent. The mixture is then used for film processing via pour-casting. The biodegradable films have significant antioxidant and antimicrobial activities related to their phenolic content.

Abstract: Methods of making and using an improved electrochemical catalyst are provided herein. Catalysts as described herein include a carbon-containing support at least partially coated with a transition metal oxide shell. Catalytic nanoparticles, such as platinum nanoparticles, ruthenium nanoparticles, and/or PtRu alloy nanoparticles, are dispersed in and/or on the shell. The catalysts exhibit enhanced long-term stability and electrochemical activity, particularly with respect to the oxidation of methanol. Microwave-assisted synthesis and thermal annealing steps make the process of producing these catalysts both efficient and more easily scalable. The resulting catalysts have a wide range of end uses in renewable energy applications, including various types of fuel cells.

Abstract: Methods of preventing or decreasing PEDv and/or Salmonella bacteria in animal feed, feed ingredients, and pet food are provided. The methods utilize generally safe chemical mitigants, such as medium chain fatty acids, essential oils, and sodium bisulfate. The chemical mitigants are introduced to the feed or feed ingredients at inclusion rates selected so as to prevent or decrease PEDv and/or Salmonella bacteria in the animal feed, feed ingredients, or pet rood. The methods are particularly suitable for use in post-processing treatment of animal feed, feed ingredients, or pet food that will be transported and stored for multiple days or weeks.

Abstract: Genetically modified transgenic pigs or pig cells having at least one knocked out Transmembrane protease, serine (TMPRSS) gene. Expression of functional gene products of the at least one knocked out TMPRSS gene in the genetically modified transgenic pig or pig cells is reduced as compared to the non-genetically modified pig or pig cells. The at least one TMPRSS gene can be knocked out using CRISPR/Cas systems.
