Abstract:
The invention relates to medical device systems that include a delivery instrument comprising a sheath having an abluminal surface and a luminal surface; a radially-expandable frame disposed at least partially within the sheath, the frame having an abluminal surface at least partially in contact with the luminal surface of the sheath, and a luminal surface defining a sub-stantially cylindrical lumen; and a fine powder coating disposed on at least one of the abluminal surface of the frame and the luminal surface of the sheath. The invention also relates to methods of manufacturing, loading, and delivering the coated medical devices.
Abstract:
The present embodiments provide an endoluminal prosthesis, such as a stent-graft, having a relatively low delivery profile. In one embodiment, the prosthesis comprises a membrane, and at least one stent having contracted and expanded states, where the stent is coupled to the membrane and maintains patency in the expanded state. The prosthesis further may comprise selectively oriented axial and/or circumferential fibers arranged at predetermined locations along the length and circumference of the prosthesis. An increased population density of the circumferential and/or axial fibers may be provided in areas in which the at least one stent portion is attached to the membrane, or in areas of higher physiological loads imposed upon the endoluminal prosthesis. Selectively orienting axial fibers and circumferential fibers at predetermined locations along the length and circumference of the prosthesis, but not continuously along the entire prosthesis, significantly reduces delivery profile due to the reduction in graft material.
Abstract:
Magnetically actuated gating devices, magnetically actuated gating systems, magnetically actuated gating kits, and methods of treatment using a magnetically actuated gating device are described herein. An example embodiment of a magnetically actuated gating device comprises a housing, a rotatable member, a compression member, and a membrane. The rotatable member has a first magnetic field that is configured to interact with a second magnetic field produced by an external element to move the rotatable member between a first position and a second position.
Abstract:
An endoluminal prosthesis for placement within a body vessel may include a tubular support structure including a proximal end segment, a distal end segment, an intermediate segment positioned between the proximal end segment and the distal end segment, a lumen extending longitudinally within the support structure, a luminal surface, and an abluminal surface opposite the luminal surface. The prosthesis may include a first layer of nonwoven electrospun fibers positioned on the luminal surface of the support structure. The prosthesis may include a second layer of nonwoven electrospun fibers positioned on the abluminal surface of the support structure. At least one of the proximal end segment or the distal end segment of the support structure may be encapsulated within a covering including the first layer of nonwoven electrospun fibers and the second layer of nonwoven electrospun fibers. The intermediate segment of the support structure may be unencapsulated within the covering.

A method for bonding a graft material to a support element employing a silane coupling agent, and a medical device obtainable by the method. A medical device including a graft material bound to a support element by a plurality of silane linkages is also described.

Abstract:
A surface providing reduced adhesion to formed elements, having an element dimension such as formed element diameter, has a plurality of topographic features. The topographic features have a feature dimension less than the dimension of the formed element so as to reduce the accessible area of the surface available to the formed element for adhesion to the surface. The topographic features may include protrusions, such as pillars.
