A catalyst composition consisting essentially of a reaction mixture of (A) at least one member selected from the group consisting of compounds of W, Mo, Re and Ta, (B) at least one member selected from the group consisting of organometallic compounds of elements of Groups IA, IIA, IIB and IIIA of the Deming Periodic Table, and (C) at least one member selected from the group consisting of compounds of V, Cr, Mn, and elements of Groups IVB and VIII of the Deming Periodic Table, has a very high activity in the ring-opening polymerization of norbornene derivatives having at least one polar substituent selected from the group consisting of ester groups, nitrile groups, amide groups, imide groups, carboxylic acid anhydride groups and halogens. The metal atom ratio of (C)/(A) is usually 0.001 - 50, and the molar ratio of (B)/(A) is usually 1 - 10. At least one said norbornene derivative and at least one cycloolefin other than cyclohexene can also successfully be subjected to ring-opening copolymerization with said catalyst.

A process for preparing poly-.alpha.-amino acid particles comprising polymerizing an .alpha.-amino acid-N-carboxy anhydride using a polymerization initiator in an organic solvent in which both the solubility of the .alpha.-amino acid-N-carboxy anhydride and the solubility of the produced poly-.alpha.-amino acid are 0.1 g/100 ml or less at 25.degree. C. Polyamino acid particles having a high molecular weight and a small bulk specific gravity can be manufactured very easily without requiring specific procedures. The polyamino acid particles can be used as a coating material for papers, resins, rubbers, and fibers; particles for cosmetics; particles for diagnostic drugs; fillers for chromatography; and an encapsulating material for drugs, fertilizers, and perfumes.

Solid poly-.alpha.-amino acid particles are obtained by preparing an oil-in-water emulsion from water and an organic solvent having a water solubility of 10 g/100 ml or less, and polymerizing an .alpha.-amino acid-N-carboxy anhydride by emulsion polymerization in the oil-in-water emulsion, or by polymerizing an .alpha.-amino acid-N-carboxy anhydride in water in the presence of an emulsifier and an initiator. Hollow particles can be obtained by adding a poor solvent for the poly-.alpha.-amino acid to the poly-.alpha.-amino acid particles and removing the solvents. These poly-.alpha.-amino acid particles are useful as a novel raw materials for coating on papers, rubbers and fibers, for encapsulating cosmetics, drugs, agricultural chemicals and fertilizers, and as particles for diagnostic reagents.

A blood-sampling vessel containing therein a conjugated diene (co)polymer with a weight average molecular weight, reduced to sodium polystyrene sulfonate, of at least 3,000 and containing 2 mmol/g or more of at least one sulfonic acid group or a salt thereof. The vessel can be easily manufactured and constantly exhibits high anticoagulant and fibrinogen-removing capability to the blood contained therein, with no adverse effects on a variety of inspections and tests.

A hexene-1/4 methylpentene-1 random copolymer composed of 65 to 90% by weight of hexene-1 unit and 35 to 10% by weight of 4-methylpentene-1 unit and having a polystyrene-reduced number average molecular weight of 20,000 to 500,000, which copolymer is useful in applications as rubber vibration insulators, modifiers for plastics and rubbers and adhesives. A thermoplastic resin composition obtainable by blending 100 parts by weight of a mixture consisting of(A) 75 to 40% by weight of a propylene polymer,(B) 20 to 40% by weight of an ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymer, and(C) 5 to 30% by weight of a graft copolymer obtained by copolymerizing an aromatic vinyl compound and a polar vinyl compound in the presence of an ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymerwith(D) 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, an anhydride thereof or a mixture of the two, and(E) 0.01 to 0.3 part by weight of an organic radical-generating agent,and then subjecting the resulting blend to thermal treatment. Said composition has not only a high bending modulus inherently possessed by polypropylene resins but also remarkably improved coating property. Accordingly, the composition is useful as interior and exterior trim parts of automobiles and exterior trim parts of motorcycles.
