摘要: A method of evaluating a coating applied to a surface comprises the step of applying the coating to the surface. The coating including a conversion gel to chemically bind the surface and an indicator substantially uniformly distributed throughout the coating wherein the indicator modifies an appearance of the coating. The method further comprising the step of determining whether the indicator is present on the surface at a substantially uniform concentration.

摘要: Methods for formulating and depositing a sol-gel coating onto a surface of a solar cell to provide improved radiation damage resistance. The sol-gel contains a solvent, alkoxyzirconium and an organosilane, with an organic acid catalyst and optionally a surfactant. The sol-gel coating can be deposited by spraying and the sol-gel coating is cured. The invention reduces manufacturing steps and overall weight of the solar cell array.

摘要: Thin film metal particulates are removed from FEP sheetstock cheaply and quickly by immersing the coated FEP first in a base and then in an acid. Occasionally, ultrasonic vibration of the FEP may also be required. The particulates are useful as paint pigments when isolated and conversion coated. The FEP is reusable. A preferred binder for carrying the pigments is a two-component system having a tetraketimine and an isocyanate.

摘要: Sonochemistry permits extremely rapid cooling to form nanoscale amorphous metal particles. If magnetic, these particles are valuable for magnetic recording media, manufacture of permanent magnets, and other uses. The nanoscale particles agglomerate, however, which limits their utility for these magnetic applications. To keep the particles isolated, we extract the particles from the n-alkane reaction solvent in a polar solvent and cast the extracted particles with a polymer, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone.

摘要: Methods of forming a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) are provided. The methods may be suitable for aircraft exterior applications. A particular method includes mixing together an un-crosslinked acrylic adhesive, a solvent, and a polyisocyanate crosslinker to form a mixture. The method also includes driving off a portion of the solvent. The method further includes reacting the polyisocyanate crosslinker with the un-crosslinked acrylic adhesive. A resultant crosslinked adhesive exhibits a peel strength in a range between around 2 pounds per square inch and around 8 pounds per square inch at temperatures in a range between around 180 degrees Fahrenheit and around 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

摘要: Aliphatic tetraketimine of the present invention are a novel class of compounds represented by the formula: wherein Et is ethyl, Me is methyl, and R is a residue of an aliphatic diisocyanate. The tetraketimine is made by condensing a novel ketimine with a diisocyanate. The ketimine has a free secondary amine after a polyamine selected from the group consisting of: H2N—C2H4—NH—C2H4—NH2, H2N—C2H4—NH—C2H4—NH—C2H4—NH2, H2N—(CH2)6—NH—(CH2)6—NH2, or tris(2-aminoethyl)amine is reacted with a ketone.

摘要: A surface treatment, especially for titanium and aluminum alloys, forms a pigmented sol-gel film covalently bonded on the metal surface to produce desired color, gloss, reflectivity, electrical conductivity, emissivity, or a combination thereof usable over a wide temperature range. The coating retains its characteristics and impact resistance following exposures to temperatures at least in the range from −321° F. to 750° F. An aqueous sol containing an organometallic alkoxide containing either Ti or Al and an organosilane with an organic acid catalyst and stabilizer is applied to etched or grit blasted substrates by dipping, spraying, or drenching, to produce bonds in a single application comparable in strength and performance to standard anodize controls. The sol-gel coating may be graded in its ceramic character by adjusting the organosilane component between TEOS and silanes that have more distinctive organic character by virtue of organic ligands attached to the silicon.
