Abstract:
A switch of a network, which services a contract, for switching frame relay frames having a variable size. The switch includes ports through which frames are received from and sent to the network. The switch includes a memory in which data of the frames is stored, the memory in communication with the ports. The switch includes a processor which sends traffic contract conforming frames within a first time interval having a bandwidth to the network and adds unusable bandwidth from the first time interval to a second time interval in which the processor sends data to the network. A method for switching frame relay frames having a variable size in a network, which services a contract.
Abstract:
A heat exchanger and a heat exchanger core are disclosed. The heat exchanger core is formed from a strip of synthetic resin molded into multiple panels which are accordion folded to form the heat exchanger core. One embodiment is a counterflow core in which sides of each panel parallel to the longitudinal axis of the strip are divided to form a closed portion and an open portion. The opposite longitudinal sides are similarly formed but the portions are reversed. The sides of each panel perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the strip are closed either by a hinge formed in the strip or by panel borders abutting each other. A second embodiment discloses a strip also formed into multiple panels and accordion folded. However, every second hinge has an opening so that when folded, a cross flow core is created. Both cores are mated with appropriately designed molded plastic housings to form effective but simple and economical heat exchangers.
Abstract:
An apparatus for sharing a resource. The apparatus includes a plurality of a configurable number of groups, each group of the plurality of groups having a configurable share size of the resource. The apparatus includes a controller which chooses which group of the plurality of group are active and the share size of the resource each active group is to have. The controller modifying which groups are active and the share size of the resource of each active group during operation of the apparatus without affecting or stopping the operation of the apparatus. A method for sharing a resource. The method includes the steps of choosing with a controller of an apparatus which groups of a plurality of groups of the apparatus are active and a share size of the resource each active group is to have. There is the step of modifying with the controller which groups are active and the share size of the resource of each active group during operation of the apparatus without effecting or stopping the operation of the apparatus. An apparatus for dynamic port updating. A method for dynamic port updating.
Abstract:
A security system. The security system comprises N surveillance nodes, where N is greater than or equal to 17 and is an integer. Each surveillance node providing a video source of a scene of a location of the surveillance node. The security system comprises a monitoring node having a display in communication with the N surveillance nodes. The security system comprises a controller which simultaneously continuously shows on the display a live scene of the surveillance node when a predetermined event occurs at the surveillance node, and a recorded scene of the node for a predetermined time which spans before, during and after the predetermined event, the controller in communication with the monitoring node and the N surveillance nodes. Alternatively, N is greater than or equal to 2 and is an integer, and the security system comprises an ATM network through which the N surveillance nodes, the monitoring node and the controller communicate. A method for maintaining security.
Abstract:
A process for economically forming and assembling heat exchangers is disclosed. The process begins with a roll of synthetic resin which is heated and then impressed with a series of alternating panels and hinges. The hinges are formed so as to provide for an accordion fold. The formed strip of material is then cooled, trimmed, measured and cut. Thereafter, the strip of material is folded in an accordion fashion. The folded core may be bonded or constrained so as to form two sets of fluid flow passages in an alternating manner. Depending upon the design of the panels formed in the strip of material, the cores will either be counterflow or cross flow. In addition, a housing is thermo formed and then assembled with the core to complete the heat exchanger.
Abstract:
A switch for switching data from a source to a destination along a network, at least a portion of which is optically based. The switch a plurality of input and output ports of optical transceivers. The switch an element connected to the input and output ports in which the data is reflected as many times as necessary until a desired output port is available for the data to be sent out to the destination. A method for transferring data in a telecommunications network. The method the steps of receiving data at a chassis of an optical switch in the network. There is the step of reflecting the data in the chassis until an output port of the switch becomes available to the data. There is the step of sending the data out the output port onto the network.
Abstract:
A cooling and heating system using a vortex tube is disclosed. The system is attached to an equipment enclosure used for telecommunications, cable television and the like where a cold airstream from the vortex tube is directed to the sealed upper chamber of the enclosure, the upper chamber typically containing heat generating electronic components. The hot airstream generated by the vortex tube can be used to maintain an elevated temperature which prolongs the life of certain batteries and enhances their efficiency. Cold plates, heat exchangers, air jets and the like may be used in conjunction with the vortex tube to increase the cooling or heating of preselected components or items.
Abstract:
A backup DC vent system for an equipment enclosure is disclosed. The system includes an air intake system which allows air to pass from the ambient environment through a battery compartment of the enclosure, through the floor and into the interior of the enclosure where components to be cooled are mounted. Internal air distribution is accomplished by an air distribution duct system. An air exhaust system is attached to a side of the enclosure and includes a door panel to selectively allow heated air flow from the enclosure interior, a fan mounted to a fan box which is mounted to the enclosure for sucking the air through the enclosure, and a cover to prevent wind driven rain water from impinging upon the fan or the interior of the enclosure.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus which extends the useful life of a lead-acid type battery by applying conductive cooling directly to the bottom surface of the battery to maintain the battery at a constant temperature of about 25null C. regardless of the ambient temperature surrounding the battery.
