Abstract:
Technology to adaptively sectorize a spatial region for parallel multi-user transmissions is disclosed. In an example, a node (e.g., evolved Node B (eNB)) can include computer circuitry configured to: Generate a set of precoding matrices for a set of beam cones in the spatial region; and generate a beam cone for multi-user beamforming transmissions using system information for the beam cone. A precoding matrix in the set of precoding matrices can be used for each beam cone, and each beam cone can cover a beam cone spatial region that differs from another beam cone spatial region of another beam cone in the spatial region. Each beam cone can include system information that differs from the system information of the other beam cones in the spatial region.
Abstract:
Film bulk acoustic resonators (FBARS) have resonant frequencies that vary with manufacturing variations, but tend to be matched when in proximity on an integrated circuit die. FBAR resonant frequency is determined using a fractional-N synthesizer and comparing phase/frequency of an output signal from the fractional-N synthesizer to a reference. The reference may be derived from a low frequency crystal oscillator, an external signal source, or a communications signal.

Device, system, and method of flicker noise mitigation. For example, an apparatus includes a digital adaptive filter to mitigate flicker noise from a received Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signal, wherein the digital adaptive filter includes: a prediction filter to estimate a value of the flicker noise based on linear combination of past low-pass filtered signal samples; a trainer sub-circuit to modify a coefficient of the prediction filter based on a difference between: a known incoming signal filtered by the prediction filter in a training stage, and a locally-generated reference copy of the known signal; a first path including a first pair of analysis-synthesis filters; and a second, parallel, path including a second pair of analysis-synthesis filters and further including the prediction filter.
Abstract:
Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, in a pulse position and pulse position modulation out-phasing transmitter, the range of the phase angle, theta, may be divided into more than one range to drive a first power amplifier with a first range of theta, and to drive a second power amplifier with a second range of theta. In one or more embodiments, a main power amplifier is driven with a first phase range having a higher probability density function, and an overload power amplifier is driven with a first phase range having a lower probability density function. In one or more embodiments, a full adder may be used to combine the two phases wherein the sum signal is used to drive the main power amplifier, and the carry signal is used to drive the overload power amplifier.
Abstract:
Frame synchronization of a received OFDM signal (such as that used in a hybrid FM DAB system) is provided by filtering out significant outer frequency portions of the digital channels, and then using cyclic extension and correlation of the cyclically extended bits (or samples). The received OFDM signal is passed through a bandpass filter to remove outer digital subcarriers (i.e., those farthest from a center frequency) from a received OFDM signal before correlating to locate the OFDM frame boundaries. By filtering out digital subcarriers within each of the digital channels, particularly those closest to adjacent channels and thus most likely to be interfered with by an adjacent first channel OFDM (or FM) signal, correlation between cyclically extended bit (or sample) patterns and thus frame synchronization of OFDM signals can be improved significantly.

Technology to provide hybrid beamforming feedback is disclosed. In an example, a user equipment (UE) can include computer circuitry configured to: Receive a reference signal (RS) from a node; calculate an optimal channel direction from the RS; calculate an optimal signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) for the optimal channel direction, where the optimal SINR is conditionally calculated with an intra-cell interference component or calculated without the intra-cell interference component based on a feedback configuration; and transmit the optimal channel direction and the optimal SINR to the node.

Embodiments of system, device, and method configurations for implementing a progressive channel state indicator (CSI) evaluation are disclosed herein. In one example, techniques for increasing the precision of channel feedback information by detecting a best beam index in a progressively scanning grid of beams is deployed in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The use of a progressive CSI technique may be used to improve the robustness of beamforming in network configurations deploying multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) transmission modes.

Abstract:
A multiple-persona system and method is described, wherein a UE (user equipment) is able to connect to two different networks simultaneously. In a multiple-persona system, one of the personas may have a higher significance than the other persona. For example, a connection to a work network may be prioritized over connection to a home network. In such a situation, it may be desirable to have applications running on the work network have priority over applications running on the home network. Such a method and system may operate independently of the eNodeB or have the eNodeB actively controlling the priority among the personas. The scheduler in either the eNodeB or the UE may contain anew input for the significance of the persona. The significance of the persona is taken into account when sending data to and from the UE.
