摘要: The invention provides a method to transform large quantities of fiber glass waste into useful ceramic products by a low-cost manufacturing process. The method consists of reducing the fiber glass waste into a glass powder; mixing the glass powder with additives into a glass-additives mixture; granulating the glass-additives mixture into granulated particles; forming the granulated particles into a green ceramic article; and heating the green ceramic article into the ceramic product. Water and clay can be included in the processing. Only one firing step is needed with a low peak firing temperature of about 700° C. to about 1000° C. The method conserves energy and natural resources compared to clay-based traditional ceramic manufacturing. High-quality impervious ceramic products can be produced by the invention.

摘要: A composite of PZT (lead zirconate titanate) and a compliant polymer having 1-3-0 connectivity is described. A polymer self-connected in all three mutually perpendicular directions with a void in the center has an array of parallel PZT rod elements embedded therein and extending through the void. The void isolates a region of the PZT rods from the polymer. The axes of the PZT rods are along the direction of the poling electric field. Such an arrangement significantly enhances the hydrostatic piezoelectric charge and voltage coefficients d.sub.h and g.sub.h.

摘要: A flow controller is provided that detects intervals between successive drops and responds to detection of intervals which are too long by shutting down operation of the administration set if the abnormal flow causing the long interval cannot be corrected. In response to detection of abnormal flow which is not clearly a high flow condition and/or an empty container, the flow controller sequentially opens, closes, re-opens and again closes the clamp of the controller in an attempt to restore normal flow. If normal flow is restarted before the sequence is completed, the controller returns to normal control of the fluid flow. Otherwise, completion of the sequence results in a shutdown of the system and activation of an alarm. In keeping with the invention, indicia are provided in connection with the drop chambers of the administration sets which are sensed by sensing means mounted to the drop detector of the flow controller in order to indicate to the controller the size of the orifice in the drop chamber. In addition, a plurality of drop sensors are provided which cooperate to provide a reliable drop signal for angles approaching 30 degrees from vertical.

摘要: Piezoelectric PZT-polymer composites of 1-3 and 1-3-0 connectivity are trversely reinforced with glass fibers to increase the hydrostatic piezoelectric charge and voltage coefficients (d.sub.h and g.sub.h) for possible use in hydrophone applications. These composites consisted of a foamed (with porosity) or non-foamed (no porosity) polymer matrix with PZT rods aligned parallel to the poling direction and glass fibers in the remaining two transverse directions. Because of the small percentage of PZT required, these composites have densities near that of water, and much lower dielectric constants than solid PZT, resulting in large increases in the hydrostatic piezoelectric voltage coefficient g.sub.h. By increasing the d.sub.h and g.sub.h coefficients, the d.sub.h g.sub.h product, used as the figure of merit, is greatly enhanced.
