摘要: A system and method are disclosed for controlling an inventory of a plurality of point-of-care diagnostic devices. The plurality of devices includes at least one type of device. Each device is configured to perform at least one sample analysis. Each device has a usable lifetime. The inventory includes a main inventory and at least one subinventory. The inventory control system comprises a data input interface for entering data associated with the devices and a data output interface for displaying data associated with the devices. A memory stores data associated with the devices and stores steps of a computer program to automatically update the current number of devices in the at least one subinventory in response to an occurrence of an event that causes a change in the current number of devices in the at least one subinventory. The inventory control system comprises a processor for accessing the memory to execute the computer program.

摘要: A system comprising a disposable device and hand held reader can perform a variety of electrochemical measurements on blood or other fluids. In operation, a fluid sample is drawn into the disposable device through an orifice by capillary action. The orifice is sealed off and the disposable device is inserted into the reader. The reader which controls the test sequence and flow of fluid causes a calibrant pouch located inside the device to be pierced, releasing the calibrant fluid to flow across the sensor arrays to perform calibration. Next an air bladder located in the device is depressed, forcing the sample across the sensors where measurements are performed and read by the reader which performs the calibrations. Once the measurements are made, the device can be withdrawn from the reader and discarded.

摘要: A blood constituent measuring apparatus and method, which can be used to measure the oxygen (or other blood constituent) content of the blood. The apparatus includes sources of two or more wavelengths of light for transmitting, e.g., red and infrared light through a portion of the body, and a photodetector for generating respective signals representing each wavelength of light transmitted through the body portion. The photodetector signals have pulsatile and non-pulsatile components. The oxygen content of the blood is computed based on the light transmitted through the body portion at each wavelength, as determined from the pulsatile component, amplified alone after the much larger non-pulsatile component is subtracted from it. The apparatus can compute the oxygen content of patients with weak pulses, or unstable physiological states, or both, by using, preferably, a plurality of independently settable gains, to maintain the signal level within a range suitable for accurate measurement. In addition, the apparatus preferably compensates for drift in the non-pulsatile component which can be caused when the patient's blood pressure, for example, becomes erratic, thereby increasing the accuracy of its computation of the oxygen content of the blood. To the extent possible, the signals produced for the different wavelengths are time-multiplexed onto a single channel. A test mode is preferably provided, in which only one wavelength of radiation is produced, resulting in a computation equal to what would be obtained in normal operation if the amounts of sensed radiation were the same for all wavelengths.

摘要: A system and method are disclosed for controlling an inventory of point-of-care diagnostic devices. The inventory includes a main inventory and at least one subinventory. Each device has an ambient temperature shelf life. Data associated with the devices is entered, including: the current quantity and predetermined minimum quantity of devices in the main inventory; and the current quantity and predetermined minimum quantity of devices in the subinventory. A first timestamp is associated with each device when the device is transferred from the main inventory to the ambient temperature subinventory. The first timestamp is compared to a second timestamp prior to use of the device to determine whether the device's ambient temperature shelf life is exceeded. The current quantity of devices in the subinventory is updated in response to an event that causes a change in the current quantity of devices in the subinventory.
