Abstract:
The invention relates to a pneumatic rubber tire with an outer, circumferential tread wherein said tread has a tread configuration comprised of spaced apart, raised lugs designed to be shock absorbingly ground contacting, wherein said tread and lugs are comprised of rubber selected from butyl rubber, halobutyl rubber or isobutylene-derived rubber. Said tire may also contain sidewalls comprised of one or more of such rubber. Thus, such tread is a combination of specific structural configuration and specific rubber composition to create a shock absorbing effect.
Abstract:
A rubber composition is provided comprising a diene-based elastomer, a vulcanizing agent, a vulcanizing accelerator and a reinforcement comprising a conical carbon. The conical carbon comprises cones, flat plates, nanotubes and fullerenes. Also provided is a tire having at least one component fabricated from the rubber composition.
Abstract:
Rubber compositions comprised of novel blends of segmented styrene-rich styrene/isoprene/butadiene terpolymer elastomer and at least one additional elastomer and tires with treads comprised of such rubber composition. Such tires may exhibit increased traction and reduced rolling resistance.
Abstract:
Disclosed is the use of a brominated polymer derived from isobutylene and p-methylstyrene monomers to decrease the spider flow of various rubber components used in the carcass of an uncured pneumatic tire. The amount of the brominated polymer utilized is in a range of about 3 to about 15 phr. The various components include the ply coat, wire coat, tread cushion, belt-edge gumstrip, apex, chipper, and barrier.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the discovery that the combination of tetrabenzylthiuram disulfide, cashew nut oil modified novolak-type phenolic resin, a bismaleimide compound and a sulfenamide compound provides for excellent vulcanization of rubbers and results in desirable final rubber vulcanizate physical properties in the absence of generating undesirable nitrosamines and fumes during processing and cure.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to rubber compositions containing an elastomer containing olefinic unsaturation and a bis anil compound of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different and are independently selected from alkyls having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms and X is selected from the group consisting of H; OH; OAlk where Alk is an alkyl having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; COOH and; COO.sup.- M.sup.+ where M is a metal selected from the group consisting of Zn, Na, Ca and Mg; and y is 0 to 2.
Abstract:
This invention is based upon the unexpected discovery that uintahite can be incorporated into tire component rubber to improve the physical properties thereof. For example, by incorporating uintahite into tire tread rubber compositions, tires with improved tear and puncture resistance can be manufactured. Since uintahite is a relatively low cost material, its incorporation into tires also reduces cost. For instance, uintahite can be incorporated into a wide variety of tire rubber compounds used in the tread (including the base and the cap), sidewall, apex, chafer, bead coat, toeguard, innerliner, ply coat, gum strips, coverstrip, overlay and wedge stocks. This invention more specifically discloses a pneumatic tire which is comprised of a generally toroidal-shaped carcass, an outer circumferential tread which is adapted to be ground contacting, two spaced beads and two sidewalls extending radially from said spaced beads and connecting said tread to said spaced beads, wherein said tread is comprised of at least one rubbery polymer and from about 1 phr to about 20 phr of uintahite.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a sulfur curable (and cured) rubber composition which contains one or more pentaerythritol derivatives as pentaerythritol tetrabenzoate (PTB) and/or pentaerythritol tetrakis (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate) (PTHC) together with a low molecular weight polyester sebacate. Such combination of materials has been observed to increase resistance to tear for a rubber composition. The invention particularly relates to a tire having a component comprised of such rubber composition.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to rosin modified succinamic acid which is useful in lowering the rebound values of rubber and increases the traction of tires containing said compound in the tread. The rosin modified succinamic acids are prepared by reacting abietylamine and/or dehydroabietylamine with succinic anhydride.
