    摘要: A system includes radio devices where radio links between the devices are configured by bringing the radio devices in close proximity with hosts for a few seconds. A proximity detector in the device detects the proximity and an automatic registration process begins to configure a link between the device and nearby host. One-to-one or one-to-many links may be established. Links may be cancelled by repeating the process. The devices may include an indicator to indicate establishment of the link.

    摘要: A network for locating a wireless tag comprises a plurality of wireless nodes. The nodes are not connected together by a wired network. Each node is included in a floor tile for installation inside a building and configured to be wirelessly connectable to at least one other node. When the floor tiles are installed, the plurality of nodes form a mesh or grid and provide overlapping wireless coverage for locating the tag by reference to the mesh.

    摘要: A cholesteric liquid crystal display has pixel address circuits (84) with an input (12) for receiving a data signal and a plurality of outputs, wherein each output is for applying a pixel drive signal to a respective portion of the liquid crystal material (20), and wherein the pixel drive signal for each output is independently switchable by the pixel address circuit to each output. This provides spatially-separated sub-pixels, and a number of the sub-pixels can be addressed in order to provide a grey scale output for each pixel. Each pixel drive signal can however be a two-level digital signal.

    摘要: A display device has current-addressed pixels, with the currents being supplied by driver circuitry which comprises a transistor (10) for applying a charging voltage to a switched capacitor arrangement (Ci, S1, S2) arranged to selectively charge and discharge the capacitor (Ci) at a predetermined rate to a charging voltage. A transistor control voltage (Vref) is applied to a control terminal of the transistor which is adjusted depending on the transistor threshold voltage to ensure that the capacitor (Ci) is charged to the charging voltage irrespectively of the value of the threshold voltage. This enables an accurately controllable current to be provided which is used to drive the current-addressed pixels.

    摘要: An image sensor (10) includes an array having an image sensing portion (12) and a control portion (14). Pixels (18) of the image sensing portion and devices (20) of the control circuitry portion each have a diode stack (34) of a back-to-back switching diode (36, 38, 40) and a photodiode (42, 44, 46). The photodiodes of the devices (20) are constantly illuminated in use so that they act as current sources in series with the switching diode. This provides a circuit device which has characteristics enabling its use in control circuitry.

If all control inputs 28A or 280A are at a first level, then the output has the select voltage, whereas if one input 28A is at a second level, the output has the hold voltage. The switches 26 may be integrated onto the substrate of a diode-based array of electrical elements, for example image sensing pixels. In this case, the output 14 includes a row conductor for a row of such pixels.

    摘要: A light pen input system includes a light sensing device (10) having a row and column array of light sensing elements (14) over which a light pen (12) is moved to write in information, e.g. for display on a display screen, the light beam emitted by the pen producing a light spot (20) on the array which covers, and is sensed by, adjacent elements and which, with the beam directed perpendicularly to the array, is substantially non-circular in shape, having dimensions in two directions over the array which differ from one another. Rotation of the pen around its axis is then detectable, providing additional functionality. An elongated light spot, e.g. elliptical, rectangular or triangular, provides further capabilities in enabling the width of a written stroke to be varied by twisting the pen.

A color imaging system may be provided using discrete colored light sources.

    摘要: A flat panel display, image sensor memory device, or other type of large area electronic device, particularly but not exclusively with thin-film circuitry, includes an array of device elements (8) which are arranged in rows (N . . . ) and columns (M . . . ) with the device elements (8) in each pair of neighbouring columns (M, M+1) sharing a column conductor (11). The device elements (8) are coupled to their associated row conductor (21) via a first switching element (S1). In each pair (M, M+1) of neighbouring columns, the device elements (8) share a column conductor (11). Each device element of a row (n) in one column (M) of each pair is coupled via a respective second switching element (S2) to one reference conductor (1), while each device element (8) of the same row (N) in the other column (M+1) of the pair is coupled via a respective second switching element (S2) to another reference conductor (2). The reference conductors (1 and 2) function as enabling lines, which extend throughout the array for selecting their respective device elements (8). The device elements (8) in pairs of neighbouring columns share a column conductor (11), without the necessity for the device elements (8) to have opposite orientations, and without the need for the switching elements (S1, S2) to be of opposite conductivity types or to be driven with opposite polarity pulses.

    摘要: A sampled analog electrical signal in the form of sample currents is processed by combining the input sample current in one sample period with sample currents derived from input sample currents in preceding sample periods. The signal processing is performed by scaling, adding, subtracting and storing sample currents. A circuit arrangement for carrying out the signal processing may be constructed from current mirror circuits and a current memory which is capable of reproducing at its output in one sample period the current applied to its input in a previous sample period.
