Abstract:
A method of improving the material properties of a composite by electrodepositing particular polymers, organic compounds or inorganic compounds onto electrically conductive fibrous substrates, whether individual fibers or as a fabric, to form composites of improved structural properties and having particular physical properties such as being ice phobic, fire resistant, or electrically conductive.
Abstract:
A method of improving the material properties of a composite by electrodepositing various polymers, organic compounds or inorganic compounds onto each individual carbon (graphite) fiber strand, whether individual fiber or as a fabric to form an homogeneous chemically-bonded composite as opposed to the formation of a heterogeneous, non-chemically bonded composite. Thus, electrodeposition forms a unique discrete interface at the molecular layer (nanolayer) between the reinforcement (fiber) and the matrix (resin) over as opposed to any previous resin infusion process.

Polysiloxane phosphoramide fire retardants are provided having the basic structural unit: wherein, Y is O or S; R′ is selected from a saturated or unsaturated alkyl, an aryl, a heterocyclic, and a cycloaliphatic; R is selected from H, a saturated or unsaturated alkyl, an aryl, a heterocyclic, and a cycloaliphatic; X is selected from H, a saturated or unsaturated alkyl, an aryl, a heterocyclic, and a cycloaliphatic; n is selected from 0 to 500; and χ is selected from 1-500.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method for applying to a substrate, in the form of a seal, a polysiloxane-containing coating, preferably a polysiloxane(amide-ureide) coating capable of inhibiting corrosion as well as the accumulation of ice. One embodiment of the present invention is directed to a polysiloxane(amide-ureide) that forms a durable, long lasting, anti-corrosive and anti-ice coating when applied to a substrate as a seal.
Abstract:
A method for preparing and treating the surfaces of structural components, such as structural aircraft wing and fuselage skin panels, spar, spar assemblies, ribs, stiffeners, hinges, doors, etc., and the mechanical components attached to these aforementioned structural components, with a semi-permeable, corrosion-inhibiting organic coating. The method being particularly applicable for the improved sealing process of the faying surfaces of these aircraft components.
Abstract:
An oligomer having di-phenylethynyl endcaps is disclosed. The capped oligomer has the formula: D-A-D whereinD is a di-phenylethynyl endcap; andA is an oligomer selected from the group consisting of imidesulfone; ether; ethersulfone; amide; imide; ester; estersulfone; etherimide; amideimide; oxazole; oxazole sulfone; thiazole; thiazole sulfone; imidazole; and imidazole sulfone.
Abstract:
A filter membrane includes a substrate, a polymer layer provided on the substrate and a plurality of filter openings each having a width of from about 2 nanometers to about 5 nanometers provided in the polymer layer. A method of controlling pore size of a filter membrane and a method of decontaminating a filter membrane are also disclosed.

Abstract:
An improved, pre-coated aluminum-alloy aircraft component prepared by providing an aluminum-alloy component precursor to a coating apparatus having a fluidized-bed or mist apparatus, suspending the components in the fluidized-bed apparatus vertically at a distance from the bottom of the apparatus and introducing a coating to the apparatus to coat the components while being suspended in the airstream flowing through the apparatus. The non-contact, fluidized-bed or mist coating method allows for the coating of increased batch sizes in shorter coating times with decreased variations in coating thickness and uniformity.
