    摘要: Describes terminally ethylenically unsaturated poly(alkyleneoxy) surfactant compounds of the general formula, R--O--(R'O).sub.m --(EO).sub.n-1 --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --X, wherein R is the ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon group, e.g., allyl, R' is the bivalent radical derived from butylene oxide, E is the bivalent ethylene radical, m and n are numbers of from 10 to 15 and 10 to 40 respectively, and X is chloride, tertiaryamino, sulfonate, sulfate, phosphate, isethionate and alkali metal salts of the anionic groups. These surfactant compounds may be used in emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated, e.g., vinyl, monomers.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an improved method for the vinylation of pyrrolidone with acetylene in the presence of an alkali metal salt of said pyrrolidone as a catalyst, by the addition of between about 0.2 and about 8 weight-%, based on total feed, of a polyoxyalkylene glycol; a polyoxyalkylene phenol, optionally substituted with an alkyl group; a polyoxyalkylene ether or mixtures thereof; said polyoxyalkylene compound having a number average molecular weight of between about 175 and 2,000 and containing between 4 and 40 oxyethylene and/or oxypropylene units. The invention also pertains to a novel coacting catalyst composition for use in vinylation reactions comprising said alkali metal salt of said pyrrolidone in admixture with said polyoxyalkylene compound.

    摘要: The isocyanate polyoxyalkylenes having the formula:OCN--(AO).sub.x --(BO).sub.y --(CO).sub.z --DE I.wherein E is --NCO or an amino group; A, C and D represent lower alkylene of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; B is alkylene of 2 to 8 carbon atoms; y and z are each integers having a value of 0 to 50 and x is an integer having a value of from 2 to 50, and intermixtures of said polyoxyalkylenes.The above compounds display a wide variety of uses, namely for the control of fungi and bacteria or for the prevention of such infestation. They are also useful dielectric constant depressors for polymeric substances, e.g. polyvinylchloride, polyvinylidene halides, etc., extenders for solids in latices and anti-static agents.

    摘要: Improved surfactants can be produced from alkyl aryl poly(ethyleneoxy) sulfonates, represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R is an alkyl or dialkyl group having at least 6 carbon atoms; andn is greater than 9; andMe is a monovalent cation, preferably Na, NH.sub.4, K or Li.High solids content aqueous vinyl acetate emulsions having long term stability are provided by polymerizing vinyl acetate in the presence of the surfactant and water. The quantity of water is predetermined so as to produce a latex having at least 40% solids.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided herein improved glass fiber dispersions for making uniform glass fiber mats by the wet-laid process. The well dispersed glass fiber compositions of this invention usually are prepared by mixing chopped glass fiber bundles in water with a small amount of an amine oxide surfactant to disperse the bundles into individual fibers. As a feature of the invention, the dispersions may be formed at relatively high glass fiber consistencies. The resultant dispersions then are used to make very high quality glass fiber mats at high rates of production.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided herein a method of increasing the strength of wet glass fiber mats prepared by the wet-laid process. The wet-strength of such freshly prepared glass fiber mats are improved in this invention by treating the wet mat with a dilute solution of an anionic polyelectrolyte. As a feature of the invention, the wet-strength of such mats are increased substantially so that they may be conveniently handled and transferred, even manually, for further processing, e.g. for applying binders and drying, into the finished glass fiber mat product.
