Abstract:
Novel filters for cigarettes with improved retention capacity for nicotine, tars and other substances present in tobacco smoke, are prepared by incorporating into the filters aluminum oxide trihydrate hydrargillite which is more than 80% crystalline, with monoclinicpseudo hexagonal platelet structure.

Abstract:
An apparatus for manufacturing nonwoven textile webs from an aqueous dispersion of fibers including an endless flexible porous belt, a headbox positioned to deliver the aqueous dispersion to the belt, and at least one suction device having a removable and perforated mask, the perforations of the mask being aligned and arranged parallel to the direction of travel of the porous belt. The suction device is located on the opposite side of the belt from the headbox and is conterminous with the headbox.
Abstract:
A process for producing acetylated regenerated cellulose articles and such articles per se, wherein the regenerated cellulose article is acetylated first in the liquid phase and thereafter in the gaseous phase, which comprises first acetylating the regenerated cellulose article to a combined acetic acid level of from 20 to 45 percent in a liquid bath at a temperature of 80* to 135*C, such bath containing acetic anhydride and free acetic acid, in the presence of a catalytic agent having a non-acid or slightly acid reaction, the weight ratio of the acetic anhydride to the acetic anhydride plus free acetic acid being between 0.5 and 0.9, and thereafter acetylating the regenerated cellulose article to a combined acetic acid level of from 45 to 62.5 percent with acetic anhydride in the vapor phase at a temperature of 120* to 180*C.

Abstract:
An improved process for the production of springy, textured thermoplastic yarns wherein the yarns are compacted and compressed in an enclosed space by means of a flow of compressed fluid heated at a temperature that allows for the fixing of the yarn, a portion of the fluid affecting the movement of the yarn and another portion escaping to the side from the enclosed space, such process being characterized in that the escape of fluid is effected at a pressure which is lower than the feed pressure, but higher than atmospheric pressure. The apparatus for effecting such process comprises a suction nozzle constituting a passage for the yarn and a delivery tube for admission of pressurized fluid, a tubular chamber communicating with the nozzle, and having orifices therein, a housing defining a closed space enclosing at least a portion of the length of the tubular chamber and having a pressure regulation system associated therewith, and means for controlling the discharge of the treated yarn.
Abstract:
A high-bulk yarn having interlaced filaments substantially free from loops, and preferably having spherical knops affecting the yarn as a whole, is made by subjecting a continuous filament (or less preferably a staple fiber) yarn to the action of a turbulent fluid in a suitable nozzle, into which the yarn is fed nonaxially so that it rubs against one wall thereof. If desired more than one yarn can be employed, making a single composite yarn. The invention includes also a nozzle, preferably having its yarn input opening flared to provide for the necessary friction of the yarn against the side of the nozzle.
Abstract:
A PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING SYNTHETIC TEXTILE STUFFING MATERIAL FROM A CAPABLE OF CONTINUOUS SYNTHETIC FILAMENTS, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE CRIMPED, FOR USE IN STUFFING ARTICLES SUCH AS SLEEPING BAGS, ANORAKS, QUILTS, ETC. THIS PROCESS CONSISTS IN PASSING A CABLE OF CONTINUOUS SYNTHETIC FILAMENTS BETWEEN TWO SMOOTH ROLLERS TURNING AT DIFFERENT PERIPHERAL SPEEDS AND HAVING AN ALTERNATE RELATIVE TRANSVERSE MOVEMENT, RECEIVING THE THUS FLATTENED CABLE OF CONTINUOUS SYNTHETIC FILAMENTS ON A CONVEYOR BELT, SPRAYING THIS FLATTENED CABLE WITH A BINDING MATERIAL, AND CAUSING THE BINDING MATERIAL TO HARDEN.
Abstract:
In stabilizing soil for foundations for buildings or roads, a non-woven or spunbonded fabric, preferably of continuous filaments and preferably of a polyester or polyolefine, is used as an anti-contaminant layer over cleared soil, below the preparation layers and coating layers if these are used. The spunbonded fabric is pervious to water but not to mud.
Abstract:
Yarns showing novel color effects varying along their length are made by feeding a thermoplastic yarn into a confined space, so forming a long stack of uniform cross section of folded yarn in the said space, by means of a jet of fluid at a temperature sufficient to set the resulting crimp in the yarn, and feeding a dye solution, preferably two or more dye solutions at different locations to the same cross section of the stack, under conditions such that the resulting intensity of color of the yarn due to each dye falls off across the stack from the point or points of application.
Abstract:
THE INVENTION DISCLOSES A SPINNERET FOR PRODUCING A TRILOBAL FILAMENT, AND FILAMENTS PRODUCED USING SUCH SPINNERET. THE SHAPE OF EACH ORIFICE OF THE SPINNERET CAN BE CONSIDERED AS BEING PRODUCED BY A CIRCULAR APERTURE, DIAMETER D INTO WHICH PROJECT AT 120* INTERVALS, THREE IDENTICAL TRIANGULAR PORTIONS, SIDES OF THE TRIANGLES BEING TANGENT TO ONE OR MORE COAXIAL CIRCLES HAVING A DIAMETER BETWEEN 1/6 AND 1/3 OD D, THE ANGLE AT THE APEX OF EACH TRIANGEL BEING BETWEEN 60 AND 100*.
