Abstract: The invention relates to bacteria, bacterial extracts, supernatants obtained from the culturing of said bacteria, polypeptides and compositions for degrading benzimidazole carbamate fungicides, carbanilate fungicides, sulfonamide herbicides, thioamide herbicides and/or synthetic pyrethroid insecticides. In particular, the invention relates to the identification of Nocardioides sp. which degrades benzimidazole carbamate fungicides, carbanilate fungicides, sulfonamide herbicides, thioamide herbicides and/or synthetic pyrethroid insecticides.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of insect esterases or lipases, or mutants thereof, as catalysts in biotransformation processes. The present invention may have application in any process involving hydrolysis, esterification, transesterification, interesterification or acylation reactions. The invention also has application in the enzymatic resolution of compounds to produce optically active compounds and has particular, but not exclusive, application to substrates having a hydrophobic moiety such as pyrethroids and fatty acid esters.

Abstract: The present invention provides a recombinant polynucleotide, the polynucleotide comprising a first and a second sequence, the first sequence encoding a signal peptide comprising a TAT signal and a Sec avoidance signal and the second sequence encoding a heterologous protein. Abstract: The present invention provides enzymes capable of hydrolysing organophosphate (OP) molecules. In particular, the invention provides a phosphotriesterase enzyme identified from an Agrobacterium radiobacter strain isolated from soil that hydrolyses OP pesticides, and the gene encoding that enzyme. The invention also provides mutants of the identified phosphotriesterase enzyme which have altered substrate specificity. The use of these enzymes in bioremediation strategies is also provided.
