摘要: In a wastewater treatment system, a clarifier has a submerged effluent launder, with a sloped, submerged plate that allows clarified liquid to exit through submerged openings. The sloped surface tends to accumulate solids, which can lead to algae growth. Typical internal scum collection system equipment prevents any efficient way to clear the accumulated sludge off the launder surface because of interferences. As disclosed here, a scum discharge area or box is placed external to the clarifier in one embodiment. Scum is wiped from a vertical surface of the launder assembly, above the sloped launder surface, and swept over a scum beach at one position in the clarifier, to drop into a lower trough and the flow out through the clarifier wall to a drop out box or scum discharge area. This allows for a rake-attached, sweeping launder wiper to be moved with the clarifier's rake to remove the accumulation of sludge from the launder's submerged surface, without elaborate moving parts. The sludge is swept back to settle in the clarifier, improving effluent quality by preventing sludge from exiting along with clarified water. In another embodiment the scum discharge box is internal, as a low-profile vertically disposed channel against the inside clarifier wall, leading to an existing scum pipe through the clarifier wall.

摘要: A foundation haunch assembly used for attachment to a foundation wall and a method of making the haunch assembly using a concrete block machine. The haunch assembly includes a concrete haunch having an upper portion, a center portion and a lower portion. The upper portion of the haunch includes a flat top surface adapted for receiving a portion of a pre-cast concrete slab, stairs, stoops, poured in place concrete slab or other building structure thereon. Also, the upper portion includes an internal horizontal metal support rod along the length thereof. One end of the support rod is threaded to one end of a threaded coupling. The foundation haunch assembly also includes a variable length foundation bolt with a threaded end threaded into an opposite end of the threaded coupling. The foundation bolt is adapted for receipt through a hole in a portion of a vertical foundation wall. An opposite threaded end of the foundation bolt is attached to a nut. The nut is used for tightening and securing the foundation bolt and the concrete haunch to a side of the foundation wall.

摘要: A concrete floor system used in a building structure and a method of making floor components used with the floor system. The concrete floor system, if installed on grade, provides for expansion and contraction due to expansive soils and eliminates cracks, which heretofore occurred in poured concrete slab floors. The concrete floor system includes a plurality of parallel concrete beams. The beams can be made up of hollow concrete blocks for reduced weight and receiving a tension cable therethrough. Also, the beams can be either solid pre-cast beams, solid pre-cast, pre-tension beams or solid pre-cast, post-tension beams. Opposite ends of the cable are held on end plates inside recessed ends of each hollow beam. The ends of the beams are adapted for mounting next to the inside of the sides of a building foundation wall. The beams can be in a range of 5 to 20 feet and greater in length depending on the dimensions of the concrete floor. A top portion of the each parallel beam is adapted for receiving a plurality of angular shaped floor panels. The floor panels interlock next to the top portion of the beam. The floor panels and concrete blocks, used in making up one of the embodiments of the concrete tension beams, are readily adapted for making in a standard high production concrete block machine.

摘要: A plurality of solid core concrete blocks used in forming a retaining wall. The retaining wall can be used in building construction, road construction, landscaping, hillside erosion control, gardens, and like applications. Also, the retaining wall can be a straight wall, an angled wall or a curved wall depending on the application. Each of the blocks includes a vertical front face and rear face, a horizontal top and bottom and a vertical first side and second side. The first side includes a first ear and two sides of an angular first notch next to the first ear. One side of the first notch is parallel to a length of the front and rear faces and forms a side of the first ear. A second side of the first notch is disposed inwardly into the block and at an angle of 10 to 45 degrees from a horizontal line perpendicular to a length of the front and rear faces. When the first ear is broken off, a length of the second side of the first notch is extended for engaging a side of another block having a second ear broken off. In this manner, the retaining wall can be angled or curved during the wall construction.
